                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, It is with great pride and a tremendous sense of
 1-2     accomplishment that the residents of Cooke County prepare to
 1-3     celebrate their first 150 years of growth and progress as well as
 1-4     the sesquicentennial of the California Trail's establishment
 1-5     through Cooke County; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, Cooke County was created on March 20, 1848, by an
 1-7     act of the Texas Legislature, and was named for William G. Cooke, a
 1-8     renowned hero of the Texas Revolution; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, Located in North Central Texas on the Red River
1-10     boundary with Oklahoma, Cooke County combines terrain from the
1-11     Grand Prairie, Eastern Cross Timbers, and Western Cross Timbers in
1-12     its gently rolling landscape, and is also home to a number of
1-13     beautiful lakes; and
1-14           WHEREAS, The county's fertile soil supports a variety of
1-15     agricultural products, such as wheat, oats, sorghum, corn, and
1-16     soybeans as well as horses and cattle, and other natural resources
1-17     in the area include oil and gas; and
1-18           WHEREAS, Originally a point on the California Trail, the
1-19     county seat of Gainesville served as an important link to the west
1-20     for the Lone Star State, and today the community is enhanced by the
1-21     presence of many beautiful 19th century Victorian homes; among the
1-22     city's other attractions are the Frank Buck Zoo, named in honor of
1-23     the famed "bring 'em back alive" adventurer, and the Morton Museum
1-24     of Cooke County; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, The county's thriving economy is driven by such
 2-2     diverse industries as tourism, aircraft, agribusiness, petroleum,
 2-3     food processing, and steel fabrication; and
 2-4           WHEREAS, Possessing a unique heritage and a bright and
 2-5     promising future, the residents of Cooke County are indeed
 2-6     deserving of special praise and recognition for their exceptional
 2-7     contributions to the history and development of the State of Texas;
 2-8     now, therefore, be it
 2-9           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
2-10     Legislature hereby commemorate the 150th anniversary of Cooke
2-11     County and the sesquicentennial of the establishment of the
2-12     California Trail through the county.
