                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, In recognition of National Women's History Month,
 1-2     the Dallas Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., is
 1-3     recognizing notable African American Women Artists, and Irma P.
 1-4     Hall is truly one such individual; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, A retired teacher, this spirited woman auditioned
 1-6     for a small part in the 1973 film Book of Numbers after being
 1-7     prompted by a producer who heard her reading poetry; since then she
 1-8     has risen to fame through her roles in  plays and motion pictures,
 1-9     and she has appeared in more than 25 films; and
1-10           WHEREAS, Ms. Hall has shared her wisdom as a performing
1-11     artist, poet, and painter, and she has performed in numerous
1-12     venues; she has appeared in local theaters in such plays as Purlie
1-13     and House of Flowers, and in regional theaters throughout the
1-14     United States, including the San Diego Repertory Theatre in Flyin
1-15     West and with the Steppenwolf Theatre Company in Time for Burning;
1-16     and
1-17           WHEREAS, Ms. Hall has also been cast in popular television
1-18     shows such as "Touched By An Angel," "Wishbone," and "Lesson Before
1-19     Dying," and during her remarkable career in film, she has earned
1-20     awards for her performances in A Family Thing, for which she won
1-21     the Chicago Film Critics Award for Best Supporting Actress, and
1-22     Soul Food, for which she earned the Image Award Living Legends
1-23     Award; and
1-24           WHEREAS, This impressive woman has performed in other
 2-1     acclaimed films, including Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil,
 2-2     Beloved, Patch Adams, and Slippin' Down Life; and
 2-3           WHEREAS, Irma P. Hall has entertained countless citizens of
 2-4     the Lone Star State, and it is most fitting that she be applauded
 2-5     for her myriad contributions during National Women's History Month;
 2-6     now, therefore, be it
 2-7           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
 2-8     Legislature hereby honor Irma P. Hall for her significant
 2-9     contributions in the performing arts and extend to her sincere best
2-10     wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further            
2-11           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-12     prepared for Ms. Hall as an expression of high regard by the Texas
2-13     House of Representatives.
