                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, In recognition of National Women's History Month,
 1-2     the Dallas Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., is
 1-3     recognizing outstanding African American women artists, and Norma
 1-4     Adams-Wade is indeed one such individual; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, For more than 25 years, this accomplished journalist
 1-6     has enriched the lives of countless Texans with her weekly column
 1-7     highlighting the achievements of noteworthy African American
 1-8     newsmakers; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, Ms. Adams-Wade has interviewed a host of
1-10     distinguished national figures, including Maya Angelou, James
1-11     Baldwin, Julian Bond, Shirley Chisholm, Alex Haley, and Jesse
1-12     Jackson, to name but a few, and her in-depth reporting has enabled
1-13     her readers to develop a greater understanding of these
1-14     individuals, who have played such a pivotal role in shaping this
1-15     nation; and
1-16           WHEREAS, In addition, Ms. Adams-Wade explores the lives and
1-17     work of local African Americans in her column, and she also writes
1-18     feature stories about other deserving Dallas citizens; and
1-19           WHEREAS, This pioneering woman was one of the first two
1-20     African American reporters hired by the Dallas Morning News, and
1-21     she is a founder of the  National Association of Black Journalists
1-22     (NABJ) and the NABJ regional chapter that includes Texas; highly
1-23     regarded by her professional colleagues, Ms. Adams-Wade was honored
1-24     with the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Dallas/Fort Worth
 2-1     Association of Black Communicators in 1994; and
 2-2           WHEREAS, The journalistic integrity, compassion, and insight
 2-3     exhibited by Norma Adams-Wade has greatly benefited citizens of the
 2-4     Lone Star State, and it is most fitting that she be applauded for
 2-5     her myriad contributions during National Women's History Month;
 2-6     now, therefore, be it
 2-7           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
 2-8     Legislature hereby honor Norma Adams-Wade for her significant
 2-9     contributions in the field of journalism and extend to her sincere
2-10     best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further       
2-11           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-12     prepared for Ms. Adams-Wade as an expression of high regard by the
2-13     Texas House of Representatives.
