R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Texas activist and volunteer Nancy W. Putz will 1-2 travel to Austin on March 18, 1999, and her visit provides a fine 1-3 occasion to commend the good work and dedication of this esteemed 1-4 woman; and 1-5 WHEREAS, An Iowa native, Mrs. Putz is the daughter of John 1-6 and Violet Walker; she graduated from the University of Iowa with a 1-7 bachelor's degree in education and political science in 1969, and 1-8 her interest in politics is something of a family tradition for her 1-9 father was a respected member of the Iowa Legislature for 20 years 1-10 as both a representative and senator; and 1-11 WHEREAS, After moving to Texas, Mrs. Putz began a career in 1-12 education, most notably teaching government and history at San 1-13 Antonio Christian Schools (SACS), and her dedication to the 1-14 political process led her to volunteer her time to encourage others 1-15 to become more active in politics; and 1-16 WHEREAS, She returned to SACS in 1976, and two years later 1-17 married Randall Blanton Putz, an Air Force pilot; she left her 1-18 profession to follow her husband and to raise their two sons, Luke 1-19 and Jeremy, but Mrs. Putz renewed her commitment to public service 1-20 in 1996 by volunteering for Bob Dole's presidential campaign; and 1-21 WHEREAS, Her teaching and leadership skills have sparked 1-22 great interest among youth across the nation, opening their eyes to 1-23 participation and service to the public; and 1-24 WHEREAS, Mrs. Putz has spent countless hours volunteering for 2-1 numerous other activities benefitting both her community and the 2-2 children in it; and 2-3 WHEREAS, Her service and dedication have made Mrs. Putz a 2-4 role model for all who know her and she has consistently remained 2-5 selfless, putting her faith and her family before any of her 2-6 personal desires, and remaining focused on getting Texas youths 2-7 involved in civic service and government; in light of her 2-8 remarkable efforts, it is justly appropriate to recognize her at 2-9 this time; now, therefore, be it 2-10 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-11 Legislature hereby welcome Nancy W. Putz to the State Capitol, and 2-12 commend her for her significant contributions to the betterment of 2-13 this state; and, be it further 2-14 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-15 prepared for Mrs. Putz as an expression of high regard by the Texas 2-16 House of Representatives.
