                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, Vicki Meek has been recognized by the Delta Sigma
 1-2     Theta Sorority, Inc., Dallas Alumnae Chapter for her longstanding
 1-3     contributions to the world of art, and she is indeed worthy of
 1-4     special recognition for these achievements; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, The chapter's 1999 Women in the Arts Recognition
 1-6     Award honors African American women artists who have displayed
 1-7     excellence in the performing arts, visual arts, literary arts, or
 1-8     creative arts; the award will be given in conjunction with the
 1-9     chapter's 75th anniversary celebration on March 21, 1999, and
1-10     further highlights National Women's History Month; and
1-11           WHEREAS, A native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Ms. Meek
1-12     received her bachelor of fine arts degree from Tyler School of Fine
1-13     Arts in Elkins Park, Pennsylvania, and earned her master of fine
1-14     arts degree from the University of Wisconsin in Madison; her
1-15     artwork is proudly displayed in a number of private collections and
1-16     can be found in the public collections of the Houston Museum of
1-17     Fine Arts and the African American Museum of Dallas, among other
1-18     museums; and
1-19           WHEREAS, The recipient of several prestigious awards and
1-20     accolades, including the Otis and Velma Dozier Travel Grant and a
1-21     National Endowment for the Arts New Forms Initiative Grant,
1-22     Ms. Meek is equally well known for her skills as a curator; she is
1-23     currently serving as an adjunct curator for the African American
1-24     Museum in Dallas, and she has shepherded more than 40 exhibits,
 2-1     lending her perceptive eye and discerning taste to many notable
 2-2     showings; and
 2-3           WHEREAS, Honoring our African American women artists for
 2-4     their artistic accomplishments is an appropriate salute to National
 2-5     Women's History Month, and it is with great pleasure that we
 2-6     recognize Vicki Meek at this time; now, therefore, be it
 2-7           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
 2-8     Legislature hereby pay tribute to Vicki Meek for her multitude of
 2-9     artistic contributions to her fellow citizens and extend to her
2-10     warmest best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it
2-11     further
2-12           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-13     prepared for Ms. Meek as an expression of high regard by the Texas
2-14     House of Representatives.
