R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives takes pleasure in 1-2 recognizing the Texas Retired Teachers Association, whose members 1-3 have made substantial contributions to the welfare of the State of 1-4 Texas; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Founded in 1953, the association has grown from 65 1-6 members to over 36,500 members; and serves its members through its 1-7 standing committees which include community participation, 1-8 retirement education, informative and protective services, and 1-9 health care; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Among the goals of the Texas Retired Teachers 1-11 Association are promoting the well-being of its members in the 1-12 areas of intellectual, professional, and economic development; 1-13 providing a united and functional organization; encouraging members 1-14 to cooperate with other organizations in solving problems of mutual 1-15 concern; and encouraging members to donate their time and expertise 1-16 to civic and educational projects; and 1-17 WHEREAS, In 1998, the association's members contributed more 1-18 than 5,700,000 hours of volunteer services to their schools and 1-19 communities; since 1990, association members have contributed more 1-20 than 42 million volunteer hours to schools and communities; and 1-21 WHEREAS, The Texas Retired Teachers Association is an 2-1 effective and helpful organization and its members have greatly 2-2 assisted the citizens of Texas; now, therefore, be it 2-3 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-4 Legislature hereby commends the members of the Texas Retired 2-5 Teachers Association and recognizes March 22, 1999, as Texas 2-6 Retired School Personnel Day - A Celebration of Volunteerism; and, 2-7 be it further 2-8 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-9 prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by 2-10 the Texas House of Representatives.
