R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The family and many friends of the Honorable Robert 1-2 W. Bass were greatly saddened by his passing on June 28, 1998, at 1-3 the age of 76, and we join them in mourning the loss of this 1-4 notable Texan; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Born in 1926 in the town of Hutchins, Mr. Bass was 1-6 elected as a member of the Texas House of Representatives in 1961, 1-7 as a Democrat from Bowie County, and served until 1969; and 1-8 WHEREAS, During his three terms as a member he served on 1-9 various committees, addressing issues such as aeronautics, 1-10 conservation, school districts, traffic, public lands, and 1-11 livestock; he was the vice chairman of the Banks and Banking 1-12 Committee in 1967; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Mr. Bass is remembered for his love of the rural 1-14 communities that he represented and for his support of converting 1-15 the two-year college in Texarkana into a four-year school; when he 1-16 left the legislature in 1968, he returned to his time-honored 1-17 profession of ranching; Mr. Bass owned and operated the 1,700-acre 1-18 B&S Ranch outside of De Kalb for more than 32 years; and 1-19 WHEREAS, In 1988, Mr. and Mrs. Bass moved to Hurst to be near 1-20 their daughter and grandchildren; Mr. Bass was a member of the 1-21 First Baptist Church and also the Hutchins Cemetery Association; 1-22 and 1-23 WHEREAS, Throughout the course of his lifetime, Robert W. 1-24 Bass was known as a rancher of ability and integrity, an 2-1 enthusiastic and dedicated public servant, and an asset to his 2-2 community; though he is deeply missed, his spirit surely lives on 2-3 in the hearts and minds of the many whose lives he touched; now, 2-4 therefore, be it 2-5 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th 2-6 Legislature of the State of Texas hereby pay tribute to the life of 2-7 Robert W. Bass and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his 2-8 family and to his many friends; and, be it further 2-9 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-10 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of 2-11 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in the memory of the 2-12 Honorable Robert W.
