R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, On March 24, 1999, many proud residents of Hillsboro 1-2 will gather in Austin to celebrate Hillsboro Day at the State 1-3 Capitol, and this festive event is indeed an appropriate occasion 1-4 to pay special tribute to this unique Texas town; and 1-5 WHEREAS, The county seat of Hill County, the city was founded 1-6 in 1853 and named for renowned surgeon Dr. George W. Hill; and 1-7 WHEREAS, Hillsboro has grown with the changing times while 1-8 still maintaining the charm and friendliness of a small town; the 1-9 city has many beautifully restored Victorian residences and also 1-10 boasts a number of fine antique shops, which attract discriminating 1-11 connoisseurs from across the state; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Among the city's most valuable assets is Hill 1-13 College, and this outstanding institution is home to the recently 1-14 opened Texas Heritage Museum and a newly remodeled and expanded 1-15 research center; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Each year Hillsboro hosts a number of gala events, 1-17 including the county fair, Hill County Round-up and Rodeo, and the 1-18 Pioneer Day Celebration and Parade, and these events are an ideal 1-19 showcase for the city's hospitality and scenic beauty; and 1-20 WHEREAS, On April 24, 1999, residents will celebrate the 1-21 restoration of the historic Hill County Courthouse, which was badly 1-22 damaged by a fire on January 1, 1993; the dedication ceremony and 1-23 benefit concert being held will feature Hill County native Willie 1-24 Nelson and mark the reopening of the hub of county government and 2-1 the centerpiece of Hillsboro's historic downtown business district; 2-2 and 2-3 WHEREAS, The residents of Hillsboro are justifiably proud of 2-4 their fine city and of the many special qualities that make it an 2-5 outstanding place in which to live, work, and raise a family; in 2-6 light of its citizenry's many contributions to the State of Texas, 2-7 it is most fitting that Hillsboro be given special legislative 2-8 recognition at this time; now, therefore, be it 2-9 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-10 Legislature hereby recognize March 24, 1999, as Hillsboro Day at 2-11 the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the delegation from 2-12 Hillsboro who are visiting the Capitol on this day; and, be it 2-13 further 2-14 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-15 prepared for prominent display in the city of Hillsboro as an 2-16 expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
