                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, Newton High School head football coach Curtis Barbay
 1-2     guided his Eagles to the 1998 Class 3A Division II high school
 1-3     football championship, and this outstanding achievement is truly
 1-4     worthy of special recognition; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, Coach Barbay has held the position of head football
 1-6     coach at Newton High School for the past 24 years, and during his
 1-7     tenure he has compiled a stellar 208-71-5 record; since taking over
 1-8     the program in 1975, his teams have won an impressive 16 district
 1-9     championships and have appeared in the state playoffs 20 times; and
1-10           WHEREAS, The 1998 season proved to be a memorable one for
1-11     Coach Barbay and his Eagles squad; he reached a significant career
1-12     milestone with his 200th career coaching victory and his Newton
1-13     team defeated Daingerfield High School in the championship game
1-14     21-0 to claim the 1998 state crown, capping off a 14-1 season and
1-15     earning Coach Barbay the Class 3A Coach of the Year accolade; and
1-16           WHEREAS, The winning football tradition Coach Barbay has
1-17     established at Newton High School is truly remarkable, and for his
1-18     continued dedication to excellence it is indeed fitting to pay
1-19     tribute to him at this time; now, therefore, be it
1-20           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
1-21     Legislature hereby honor Newton High School head football coach
1-22     Curtis Barbay for his distinguished career and extend to him
1-23     sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it
1-24     further
 2-1           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-2     prepared for Mr. Barbay as an expression of high regard by the
 2-3     Texas House of Representatives.
