No. 491 76R10090 JBR-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Reverend Danny Davis has been the pastor of 1-2 Jordan Grove Missionary Baptist Church since March 28, 1993, and 1-3 the anniversary of his arrival is indeed worthy of special 1-4 recognition; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Known for his outstanding leadership and dedication 1-6 to the community, Reverend Davis has led Jordan Grove Missionary 1-7 Baptist Church's congregation for six years, and he has been aided 1-8 and inspired in his efforts by his wife, the former Bonnetta 1-9 Arnold; and 1-10 WHEREAS, A native of Dallas, Reverend Davis graduated from 1-11 the University of Houston, and during his years of attendance he 1-12 led the school's football team to two Cotton Bowl bids in 1977 and 1-13 1979; this accomplishment was doubly important as he was the first 1-14 African-American quarterback to have achieved this success; and 1-15 WHEREAS, This outstanding clergyman has greatly contributed 1-16 to the growth and spiritual development of Jordan Grove Missionary 1-17 Baptist Church, and he has welcomed more than 500 new members since 1-18 his arrival; to accommodate this increase in membership, the church 1-19 has expanded its facilities under this fine gentleman's leadership; 1-20 and 1-21 WHEREAS, The Reverend Danny Davis has found his true calling, 1-22 and it is most fitting that he be honored for his myriad 1-23 contributions at this time; now, therefore, be it 1-24 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-1 Legislature hereby honor the Reverend Danny Davis on his sixth 2-2 anniversary as pastor of Jordan Grove Missionary Baptist Church and 2-3 extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success and 2-4 happiness; and, be it further 2-5 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-6 prepared for Reverend Davis as an expression of high regard by the 2-7 Texas House of Representatives.
