                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The wedding anniversary of two outstanding Texans
 1-2     who have shared 40 happy and rewarding years of marriage is indeed
 1-3     cause for celebration, and on March 21, 1999, Freddie "Joe" and
 1-4     Daisy Maura observed this significant event; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, United in matrimony on March 21, 1959, this devoted
 1-6     couple has been blessed with three children, Robert Maura, Craig
 1-7     Maura, and Kimberly Gamble, as well as four grandchildren, Latoria
 1-8     Maura, Robert Maura, Jr., Aleya Maura, and Tyler Gamble; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, A native of Beaumont, Mrs. Maura earned a bachelor
1-10     of science degree in biology and a master's degree in education
1-11     from Texas Southern University (TSU) and is currently enjoying her
1-12     39th year in education as the lead principal at Sterling High
1-13     School and Thomas Middle School; and
1-14           WHEREAS, This accomplished woman has contributed to her
1-15     community as a member of the Houston Principal's Association, the
1-16     National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc., Leadership Houston,
1-17     and a host of other organizations; for her achievements she has
1-18     received many accolades,  including mention in Who's Who of
1-19     American Women in 1985; and
1-20           WHEREAS, Born and raised in Tampa, Florida, Mr. Maura moved
1-21     to Texas after being offered a basketball scholarship to attend
 2-1     TSU; he received a bachelor of science degree in physical education
 2-2     and Spanish and a master of education degree in counseling from TSU
 2-3     and is currently working his 34th year in education as an assistant
 2-4     basketball coach at Madison High School; and
 2-5           WHEREAS, While at TSU, Mr. Maura  was a starting guard who
 2-6     was  recognized as the TSU Most Valuable Basketball Player for
 2-7     1955-1956 and 1957-1958, and in 1997 he was inducted into the TSU
 2-8     Basketball Hall of Fame; the honors bestowed on Mr. Maura as a
 2-9     coach include recognition as District Coach of the Year on five
2-10     separate occasions, and in 1991-1992 he was pronounced the Houston
2-11     Independent School District Coach of the Year, the Coca-Cola Coach
2-12     of the Year, and the Houston Post Coach of the Year; and
2-13           WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Maura joined their lives together 40
2-14     years ago, and since that time they have created lasting legacies
2-15     through both their professional endeavors and their personal
2-16     triumphs; more importantly, they have shared a warm and enduring
2-17     relationship that has continued to grow in mutual regard and
2-18     admiration, and they are indeed deserving of special recognition at
2-19     this time; now, therefore, be it
2-20           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
2-21     Legislature hereby honor Freddie and Daisy Maura on their 40th
2-22     wedding anniversary and extend to them sincere best wishes for
2-23     happiness in the years to come; and, be it further
2-24           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-25     prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Maura as an expression of high regard by
 3-1     the Texas House of Representatives.
