R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Mansfield High School Lady Tigers basketball 1-2 team defeated the Corpus Christi Carroll High School Tigers 65-46 1-3 to claim their first ever UIL Class 5A state basketball 1-4 championship, and this outstanding team achievement is truly 1-5 deserving of special recognition; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Facing a stern test in the regional finals, 1-7 Mansfield earned a thrilling 54-50 overtime victory over Copperas 1-8 Cove High School, which at that time was rated the No. 1 team in 1-9 the country by USA Today; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Head Coach Samantha Morrow and her coaching staff 1-11 ably prepared the Lady Tigers for their winning season and final 1-12 battle against Corpus Christi Carroll; in that contest Mansfield 1-13 built a commanding 36-21 lead by the intermission and continued 1-14 their torrid shooting in the second half, never trailing en route 1-15 to the coveted state title, which capped off a perfect 38-0 season; 1-16 and 1-17 WHEREAS, Guard Kaira White, who was chosen tournament MVP, 1-18 paced the Lady Tigers with 20 points, nailing seven of her nine 1-19 shots, including four three-pointers; forward Kyla Hill and center 1-20 Tori Wilson also contributed several key baskets; forward/center 1-21 Robyn Miller played tough defense while hauling in rebounds, and 1-22 guard Erin Grant skillfully handled the Carroll pressing defense as 1-23 the Lady Tigers claimed the school's first state title in any sport 1-24 and became only the fourth school in girls basketball Class 5A 2-1 history to finish a season undefeated; and 2-2 WHEREAS, This monumental victory would not have been possible 2-3 without the contributions of all the talented team members, 2-4 including Heather Stubblefield, Camie Ford, Lauren Fletcher, Divona 2-5 Phillips, Brie Madden, Demetria Sparks, Christa Cox, and Brittney 2-6 Barron; and 2-7 WHEREAS, The champions of the Mansfield High School Lady 2-8 Tigers basketball team have distinguished themselves as formidable 2-9 competitors, and as they take pride in their state championship, it 2-10 is indeed fitting to pay tribute to them for their impressive 2-11 accomplishment; now, therefore, be it 2-12 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-13 Legislature hereby congratulate the Mansfield High School Lady 2-14 Tigers for winning the UIL Class 5A state basketball championship 2-15 and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued success and 2-16 happiness; and, be it further 2-17 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-18 prepared for the Mansfield High School Lady Tigers as an expression 2-19 of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
