R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to join 1-2 citizens in the observance of Public Health Week on April 4-11, 1-3 1999; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Promoting this annual community education effort is 1-5 the Southeast Texas Public Health Awareness Committee, which serves 1-6 Jefferson, Orange, and Hardin counties; among the organization's 1-7 goals are protecting individuals from infectious diseases and 1-8 environmental threats and providing education about the benefits of 1-9 healthful behaviors in avoiding chronic diseases; and 1-10 WHEREAS, "Public Health: Invest in Your Future," is the theme 1-11 of the 1999 campaign, which encourages citizens to understand how 1-12 significantly their lives have been impacted and improved by public 1-13 health initiatives; attention is also focused on local health 1-14 concerns and what individuals can do to create healthier 1-15 communities; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Public wellness is a wise investment that results in 1-17 greater longevity and a higher quality of life for citizens, as 1-18 well as reduced health care costs; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Hundreds of dedicated public health professionals 1-20 throughout Southeast Texas are committed to maintaining and 1-21 improving the health of their fellow citizens, and their efforts 1-22 are worthy of special praise at this time; now, therefore, be it 1-23 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 1-24 Legislature hereby recognize April 4-11, 1999, as Public Health 2-1 Week in Southeast Texas and extend to all members of the health 2-2 care profession warmest wishes for success in this vital 2-3 initiative; and, be it further 2-4 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-5 prepared for the members of the Southeast Texas Public Health 2-6 Awareness Committee as an expression of high regard by the Texas 2-7 House of Representatives.
