                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, Mae Belle Anderson has been presented with an
 1-2     Outstanding Texan Award by the Texas Legislative Black Caucus for
 1-3     her exemplary commitment to family, faith, and community, and this
 1-4     honor indeed merits special legislative recognition; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, A native Texan, Mrs. Anderson was born in Waelder in
 1-6     Gonzales County; her early years were divided between Waelder and
 1-7     San Antonio, and though she briefly moved to California and
 1-8     graduated from high school there,  Mrs. Anderson returned to the
 1-9     Lone Star State and settled in Houston; and
1-10           WHEREAS, Keenly aware of the value and importance of
1-11     education, Mrs. Anderson worked in a restaurant to put herself
1-12     through business college and eventually graduated from cosmetology
1-13     school as well; and
1-14           WHEREAS, Strengthened by her sense of civic commitment,
1-15     Mrs. Anderson became an active force in many local groups,
1-16     including the Key Junior High School PTA, which she served as
1-17     president; the mother of seven children, this esteemed Texan has
1-18     long placed special importance on education issues; and
1-19           WHEREAS, Mrs. Anderson held a respected position with the
1-20     federal government's human resources department for almost two
1-21     decades before joining the staff of State Representative Harold V.
1-22     Dutton, Jr.; her special skills and experience made her a valued
1-23     member of that office for 13 years until her retirement; and
1-24           WHEREAS, Throughout her many years in Houston, Mrs. Anderson
 2-1     has been an inspirational member of Union United Methodist Church,
 2-2     holding several positions of leadership in behalf of the
 2-3     congregation; in addition, she has played an active role in the
 2-4     Harris County Democratic Party and currently serves as a precinct
 2-5     judge; and
 2-6           WHEREAS, Her enthusiasm and willingness to help have earned
 2-7     Mrs. Anderson a number of awards and honors from the community she
 2-8     has so ably served, and in light of her most recent commendation,
 2-9     it is justly fitting to join in recognizing her at this time; now,
2-10     therefore, be it
2-11           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
2-12     Legislature hereby honor Mae Belle Anderson on being named an
2-13     Outstanding Texan by the Texas Legislative Black Caucus and extend
2-14     to her best wishes for continued happiness and success; and, be it
2-15     further
2-16           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-17     prepared for Mrs. Anderson as an expression of high regard by the
2-18     Texas House of Representatives.
