No. 521 76R10018 JBR-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The friends and family of Betty Jean Harden Talley 1-2 were greatly saddened by her sudden passing on March 3, 1999, at 1-3 the age of 59, and we join them in mourning their tragic loss; and 1-4 WHEREAS, A lifelong Llano resident, Mrs. Talley was born in 1-5 Kerrville on September 2, 1939, and attended school in San Angelo 1-6 and Llano; she was united in matrimony with Billy Gene Talley on 1-7 June 13, 1959, and together they raised two daughters, Katherine 1-8 Jean Stephenson and Judith Jean Hopson; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Well known for her compassion and concern for her 1-10 fellow citizens, Mrs. Talley owned and operated Betty's Day Care 1-11 in Llano for over 20 years; in 1982 she began working for the 1-12 sheriff's department as a dispatcher and 9-1-1 operator, and 1-13 continued in that capacity for the past 17 years; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Mrs. Talley's generosity was clearly displayed by 1-15 her active role in the Ladies Auxiliary for the Llano Volunteer 1-16 Fire Department and the Llano Eastern Star, which she served as 1-17 conductress for the past three years; in addition, she was 1-18 secretary of the Llano Community Center Board and was an active 1-19 member of the First Baptist Church in Llano and Beta Sigma Phi, 1-20 which honored her as Pledge of the Year from 1972 to 1974 and Girl 1-21 of the Year in 1973 and 1974; and 1-22 WHEREAS, An avid hunter, Mrs. Talley loved sports, including 1-23 baseball and archery, and over the years she won a variety of 1-24 trophies for her excellent marksmanship and attended the State 2-1 Archery Tournament in Abilene in 1972; and 2-2 WHEREAS, Betty Jean Harden Talley was an admirable woman who 2-3 was a prized member of her community, and though her devotion and 2-4 dynamic character will be greatly missed, her unique spirit will 2-5 surely live on in the hearts of all those who were privileged to 2-6 know her; now, therefore, be it 2-7 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-8 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Betty Jean Harden 2-9 Talley and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: 2-10 to her husband, Billy Gene Talley; to her daughters and son-in-law, 2-11 Judy Hopson and Kathy and Mark Stephenson; to her sisters, Mildred 2-12 Pair, Joyce Lackey, June Rusch, and Bessie Dow; to her brothers, 2-13 Bud Harden, Beverly Harden, and W. L. Harden; to her grandchildren, 2-14 Christopher Stephenson, Courtney Stephenson, and Allen Hopson; to 2-15 her nieces and nephews; and to her many other relatives and 2-16 friends; and, be it further 2-17 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-18 prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas 2-19 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of 2-20 Betty Jean Harden Talley.
