R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, March 29th and 30th, 1999, are Wise County Days at
 1-2     the State Capitol and the Texas House of Representatives is pleased
 1-3     to join with the citizens of Wise County in honoring their county's
 1-4     important contribution to our state; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, Wise County was created in 1856 from Cooke County
 1-6     and was named for the United States Senator Henry A. Wise, who was
 1-7     an early settler of the area and favored the annexation of Texas;
 1-8     and
 1-9           WHEREAS, The land is watered by the Trinity River, which
1-10     bisects the county from northwest to southeast, providing water for
1-11     the grasslands and agriculture; the county is a leading dairy and
1-12     cattle region as well as a producer of vegetables, cantaloupes,
1-13     watermelons, pecans, and grains; and
1-14           WHEREAS, Well known for its oil and gas production, Wise
1-15     County is also an important source of clay, stone, and gravel; and
1-16           WHEREAS, Decatur was selected as a town site and county seat
1-17     in 1856 and became an important stop for the Butterfield Overland
1-18     Mail Route in the 1880s; and
1-19           WHEREAS, On the traditional town square in Decatur, the Wise
1-20     County Courthouse as built in 1895 of pink limestone from Burnet is
1-21     considered a perfect architectural example of its type and era; and
1-22           WHEREAS, The Wise County Heritage Museum houses archives and
1-23     mementoes of its early history, including Indian artifacts, art,
1-24     and relics; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, Noted for its wonderful recreational areas and
 2-2     natural beauty, Wise County beckons visitors to Lake Bridgeport and
 2-3     Eagle Mountain Lake, which are located in the rugged but scenic
 2-4     county; and
 2-5           WHEREAS, These special days are an appropriate occasion for
 2-6     the Texas House of Representatives to recognize the citizens of
 2-7     Wise County and to commend them for their notable achievements;
 2-8     now, therefore, be it
 2-9           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
2-10     Legislature hereby declare March 29th and 30th, 1999, as Wise
2-11     County Days at the State Capitol and join with its residents as
2-12     they celebrate their county's greatness; and, be it further
2-13           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-14     prepared for the citizens of Wise County as an expression of high
2-15     regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
