                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, Marsha Lea King Stilley has been elected vice
 1-2     president of the Women's Professional Rodeo Association, and this
 1-3     talented individual is truly deserving of special recognition; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, A native of San Antonio and seventh generation
 1-5     Texan, Mrs. Stilley graduated from McArthur High School in 1970 and
 1-6     earned a dental hygienist license from Tyler Junior College in
 1-7     1972; she began barrel racing that year and continues riding and
 1-8     training horses today, annually attending 75 to 100 rodeos; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, Her riding career has been marked by many notable
1-10     achievements, including winning the honor of performing at the
1-11     renowned Calgary Stampede in Alberta, Canada, and setting the arena
1-12     record at the Mesquite Championship Rodeo, as well as being the
1-13     1981 Houston Stock Show and Rodeo AQHA Barrel Racing Champion; and
1-14           WHEREAS, Mrs. Stilley joined the Women's Professional Rodeo
1-15     Association in 1987 and was elected Texas director in 1995; after
1-16     serving a second term in that post, she was recently elected to the
1-17     prestigious position of vice president; and
1-18           WHEREAS, This outstanding individual's lineage includes many
1-19     Texans of historic significance, including Samuel C. A. Rodgers and
1-20     Major George Sutherland, who both served during the Texas
1-21     Revolution and fought at the battle of Bexar in 1835, William
1-22     Depriest Sutherland, who was a defender at the Alamo, and William
1-23     Menefee, a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence; this
1-24     historic lineage qualifies Mrs. Stilley to be a Daughter of the
 2-1     Republic of Texas; and
 2-2           WHEREAS, Marsha Lea King Stilley has distinguished herself
 2-3     throughout her rodeo career, and it is indeed fitting that we
 2-4     commend her for   her achievements at this time; now, therefore, be
 2-5     it
 2-6           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
 2-7     Legislature hereby congratulate Marsha Lea King Stilley on being
 2-8     elected vice president of the Women's Professional Rodeo
 2-9     Association and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued
2-10     success and happiness; and, be it further
2-11           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-12     prepared for Mrs. Stilley as an expression of high regard by the
2-13     Texas House of Representatives.
