R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The year 1999 marks the 30th anniversary of the
1-2 V. G. Young Institute of County Government, and this notable
1-3 occasion is indeed worthy of special recognition; and
1-4 WHEREAS, Created by the 61st Legislature as part of the Texas
1-5 Agricultural Extension Service of The Texas A&M University System,
1-6 the institute was designed to serve as a source of objective,
1-7 dependable, and directly attainable information that may be used by
1-8 county officials in conducting the business of county government;
1-9 the institute also serves as a provider of short courses, seminars,
1-10 and conferences at the local, area, and statewide levels; and
1-11 WHEREAS, To this end, presidents of all of the Texas county
1-12 officials' professional associations actively serve on the
1-13 institute's advisory board, and with their able assistance, the
1-14 Institute of County Government has had a significant influence on
1-15 the growth and development of county government in Texas since its
1-16 creation; and
1-17 WHEREAS, In addition to fulfilling a legislative continuing
1-18 education mandate, this admirable initiative seeks to provide
1-19 county officials with knowledge that will enable them to become
1-20 self-directed, informed, and productive members of their county
1-21 government administration; and
1-22 WHEREAS, The program could not have achieved the success it
1-23 enjoys today were it not for the exceptional service of its
1-24 coordinator, faculty, and staff, who have given generously of their
2-1 time, talents, energies, and resources to the benefit of the
2-2 institute; also pivotal in the institute's success are the county
2-3 officials who willingly share their insight and expertise to
2-4 ensure that the institute meets the diverse needs of all county
2-5 officials in Texas; and
2-6 WHEREAS, Throughout its proud history, the Institute of
2-7 County Government has maintained a strong and beneficial
2-8 relationship with Texas county officials, and its innovative and
2-9 inspiring programs continue to build character, enhance competence,
2-10 and instill the ethical values that have made our state strong and
2-11 great; now, therefore, be it
2-12 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
2-13 Legislature hereby commend the V. G. Young Institute of County
2-14 Government of the Texas Agricultural Extension Service on the
2-15 occasion of its 30th anniversary and recognize the many dedicated
2-16 individuals who have contributed to the program's success; and, be
2-17 it further
2-18 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-19 prepared for the V. G. Young Institute of County Government, the
2-20 administration of the Texas Agricultural Extension Service, and The
2-21 Texas A&M University System as an expression of high regard by the
2-22 Texas House of Representatives.
