                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, Tammy Hawkins of Odessa has been named Distinguished
 1-2     Citizen of the Year by the Buffalo Trail Council of the Boy Scouts
 1-3     of America, and she is indeed worthy of this special recognition;
 1-4     and
 1-5           WHEREAS, Each year, the council hosts the Distinguished
 1-6     Citizen Award Dinner to commend individuals who have demonstrated
 1-7     outstanding service to their community and state, and previous
 1-8     honorees have included such notable Texans as First Lady Laura
 1-9     Bush, Clayton and Modesta Williams, and Barry Williamson; and
1-10           WHEREAS,  Ms. Hawkins is a fitting recipient of this honor as
1-11     well for she has long devoted herself to strengthening and
1-12     developing programs for the youth of Odessa, and she currently
1-13     serves as the court coordinator for the Odessa Teen Court Program;
1-14     and
1-15           WHEREAS, She has also been actively involved with the Big
1-16     Brothers-Big Sisters program, the Mayor's Drug & Crime Commission,
1-17     and West Texas Opportunities for Child Welfare; in recognition of
1-18     her abilities and expertise, Ms. Hawkins was appointed to the
1-19     Juvenile Justice Advisory Board for the State of Texas by Governor
1-20     George W. Bush in May 1995; and
1-21           WHEREAS, In addition to highlighting the exemplary work of
1-22     Ms. Hawkins, the event will heighten awareness of the importance of
1-23     the scouting program to Texas youngsters; each year, the Buffalo
1-24     Trail Council serves more than 6,000 youths in 18 counties,
 2-1     continuing the scouting traditions of civic and personal
 2-2     responsibility; and
 2-3           WHEREAS, On April 8, 1999, Ms. Hawkins will be presented with
 2-4     the award for her untiring devotion to the youth of our state, and
 2-5     it is a great pleasure to join the council in recognizing her at
 2-6     this time; now, therefore, be it
 2-7           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
 2-8     Legislature hereby honor Tammy Hawkins on being named Distinguished
 2-9     Citizen of the Year and extend to her best wishes for continued
2-10     happiness and success; and, be it further
2-11           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-12     prepared for Ms. Hawkins as an expression of high regard by the
2-13     Texas House of Representatives.
