R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The 65th birthday of a notable Texan is indeed an
 1-2     occasion worthy of special recognition, and on March 16, 1999,
 1-3     Bertha M. Dorian celebrated this memorable milestone; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, Born in Beaumont on March 16, 1934, Mrs. Dorian grew
 1-5     up in the Fifth Ward of Houston and graduated from Old Taylor High
 1-6     School of nursing, where she received LVN certification; after
 1-7     nursing for a number of years, she accepted a position as personal
 1-8     secretary to the administrative director of Model City Mental
 1-9     Health Mental Retardation Authority, currently known as Harris
1-10     County Mental Health Mental Retardation Authority; and
1-11           WHEREAS, Through continued education,  Mrs. Dorian became a
1-12     psychiatric case worker and developed a reputation as a trusted
1-13     confidante and friend; she worked for the Harris County Mental
1-14     Health Mental Retardation Authority until her retirement, 22 years
1-15     after her employment began; and
1-16           WHEREAS, In addition to her impressive professional career,
1-17     Mrs. Dorian was married to the late Louis Dorian for 38 years and
1-18     together they lovingly raised six children: Brenda Green, Shyrel
1-19     Barrett, Wanda Baker, John Dorian, Bridgette Christy, and Tyrone
1-20     Dorian; and
1-21           WHEREAS, This outstanding Texan has been an inspiration to
1-22     her many friends and family members, and it is truly a pleasure to
1-23     join them in honoring her at this time; now, therefore, be it
1-24           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
 2-1     Legislature hereby congratulate Bertha M. Dorian on the occasion of
 2-2     her 65th birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes for
 2-3     continued happiness and good health; and, be it further
 2-4           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-5     prepared  for Mrs. Dorian as an expression of high regard by the
 2-6     Texas House of Representatives.
