R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, San Antonio will host the Presidents' Meeting of the
1-2 Asociacion Internacional de Clubes Sembradores de Amistad, "Sowers
1-3 of Friendship," on May 13-16, 1999; and
1-4 WHEREAS, The association began in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon,
1-5 Mexico, in 1936, by a group of men who saw the need to advocate
1-6 friendship and ethics in their professional and private lives; and
1-7 WHEREAS, Founded on the tenets of respect for individual
1-8 rights, community service, and patriotism, the organization today
1-9 has grown to more than 30 clubs with some 700 members in cities
1-10 throughout Mexico and the United States; and
1-11 WHEREAS, Club members continue to focus on five guiding
1-12 principles: the promotion of friendship and understanding among
1-13 people of Hispanic cultures; the importance of ethics among
1-14 businessmen and other professionals; the promotion of individual
1-15 and community cultural awareness; civic advancement; and charitable
1-16 assistance for less fortunate members of society; and
1-17 WHEREAS, The group's beneficient programs take many forms,
1-18 including medical and dental clinics, day-care centers and schools,
1-19 housing and nursing care for the elderly, homes for unwed mothers,
1-20 shelters for abused women and children, and nutrition centers; in
1-21 addition, members provide relief to individuals and communities in
1-22 the wake of catastrophic events and award hundreds of thousands of
1-23 dollars in college and university scholarships each year; and
1-24 WHEREAS, The San Antonio event is one of the biannual
2-1 planning meetings that allow club members to report on their
2-2 progress, formalize goals, and coordinate activities; it is a great
2-3 honor for Texas to host the upcoming presidents' meeting, and most
2-4 fitting to recognize the association at this time; now, therefore,
2-5 be it
2-6 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
2-7 Legislature hereby honor the members of the Asociacion
2-8 Internacional de Clubes Sembradores de Amistad, for their many
2-9 successful civic and social initiatives; and, be it further
2-10 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-11 prepared for the group as an expression of high regard by the Texas
2-12 House of Representatives.
