R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, On November 5, 1998, the final issue of the
1-2 Sanderson Times was published, and the long and distinguished
1-3 history of this weekly newspaper is truly worthy of special
1-4 legislative recognition; and
1-5 WHEREAS, Under the guidance of publisher-editor J. A.
1-6 Gilbreath, the Sanderson Times has been a staple in Terrell County
1-7 since 1947, offering outstanding coverage of local, national, and
1-8 international events; and
1-9 WHEREAS, Mr. Gilbreath and his family first came to Sanderson
1-10 in 1938, and after residing in Wichita Falls and Europe between
1-11 1940 and 1947, they returned to the West Texas town that has been
1-12 their home ever since; and
1-13 WHEREAS, The Sanderson Times has endured through good times
1-14 and bad, earning a special place in the hearts of many area
1-15 residents with its blend of hard news and homespun charm, and
1-16 although the newspaper will be greatly missed by its readers,
1-17 Mr. Gilbreath and his staff are to be commended for their many
1-18 years of hard work and dedication in the name of journalism; now,
1-19 therefore, be it
1-20 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
1-21 Legislature hereby pay tribute to J. A. Gilbreath and to all those
1-22 who have contributed to the publication of the Sanderson Times
1-23 through the years and extend to them sincere best wishes for
1-24 continued happiness in the years to come; and, be it further
2-1 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-2 prepared for Mr. Gilbreath and the employees of the Sanderson Times
2-3 as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of
2-4 Representatives.
