R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The family and many friends of Lora Bell Lockhart
 1-2     were greatly saddened by her passing on January 8, 1998, at the age
 1-3     of 88, and we join them in mourning their loss; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, Mrs. Lockhart was raised in Minnesota, and it was
 1-5     there she met her future husband while a student at the University
 1-6     of Minnesota; in 1936 they were married, and they enjoyed a
 1-7     relationship that continued to grow in mutual affection,
 1-8     admiration, and respect until his death; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, After marrying, the couple settled in Alpine, where
1-10     Mrs. Lockhart assisted her husband in setting up his private
1-11     practice, and after World War II they opened the Lockhart Clinic;
1-12     and
1-13           WHEREAS, In the 1940s and 1950s, Mrs. Lockhart worked as a
1-14     society reporter and bookkeeper for the Alpine Avalanche, and she
1-15     brought to these positions her characteristic  diligence and
1-16     enthusiasm; and
1-17           WHEREAS, An accomplished musician, she lent her talents on
1-18     the violin and piano to a number of musical presentations, and her
1-19     lovely singing voice was a familiar and welcome presence in the
1-20     First Presbyterian Church choir; and
1-21           WHEREAS, She was well known as a vital and valued member of
1-22     her community, and she gave of her time and energy to a number of
1-23     worthwhile organizations, including the American Legion Auxiliary,
1-24     the Alpine Community Center, the American Association of University
 2-1     Women, and the Girl Scouts, and she was designated Beta Sigma Phi's
 2-2     "First Lady of the Year" in 1972; and
 2-3           WHEREAS, Throughout her lifetime, Lora Bell Lockhart
 2-4     distinguished herself as a warm friend and a good neighbor, and
 2-5     although she has been missed, her spirit surely lives on in the
 2-6     hearts of all those fortunate enough to have known her; now,
 2-7     therefore, be it
 2-8           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
 2-9     Legislature hereby honor the memory of Lora Bell Lockhart and
2-10     extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her
2-11     children, Joyce Lockhart Wildenthal, Lolly Lockhart, William E.
2-12     Lockhart III, and Mary Bell Lockhart; to her grandchildren, Becky
2-13     Wildenthal, Bryan Wildenthal, Lora Wildenthal, Shelly Beard, Amy
2-14     Beard, and Taylor Woodruff; to her great-grandsons, James Hewson
2-15     and Justin Hewson; to her brother-in-law, Col. Vincent M.
2-16     Lockhart; and to her many other relatives and friends; and, be it
2-17     further
2-18           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-19     prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas
2-20     House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
2-21     Lora Bell Lockhart.
