                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The passing of Isabelle Burns McMichael Duncan on
 1-2     July 5, 1998, at the age of 77, brought a great loss to the family
 1-3     and many friends of this West Texas native; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, Born in San Angelo on November 29, 1920, Mrs. Duncan
 1-5     entered Sul Ross State University in Alpine after graduating from
 1-6     high school in Big Lake; it was in Alpine that she met J. C.
 1-7     Duncan, Jr., and the two bound their futures together in a wedding
 1-8     ceremony in 1942; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, They lived south of Toyahvale on the Duncan Ranch,
1-10     and their marriage was blessed with three fine sons whom they
1-11     raised amid some of the most spectacular and distinctive scenery in
1-12     Texas; and
1-13           WHEREAS, Mrs. Duncan began teaching school in the early 1950s
1-14     at Fort Davis Junior High School; her love for children and
1-15     learning made her a dedicated and able instructor, and she remained
1-16     a valued and much-appreciated educator until her retirement in
1-17     1973; and
1-18           WHEREAS, The loss of her beloved husband in 1982 was a
1-19     sorrowful event, but this hardy soul endured with the aid of her
1-20     close-knit family and by concerting her efforts to help others;
1-21     Mrs. Duncan's activities with a number of community groups
1-22     benefited many, and her love for West Texas and its storied past
1-23     led to a position as one of the first volunteers with the Fort
1-24     Davis National Historic Site; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, Isabelle Duncan was a woman of rare determination
 2-2     and ability, and though her guidance and devotion are deeply
 2-3     missed, surely her presence lives on in the hearts and memories of
 2-4     the many people whose lives she touched; now, therefore, be it
 2-5           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
 2-6     Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Isabelle Burns
 2-7     McMichael Duncan and extend deepest sympathy to the members of her
 2-8     family: to her sons, Joe Duncan, Jim Duncan, and Tom Duncan; to her
 2-9     grandchildren, Melissa Troup, Leslee Duncan, Jane Ann Duncan,
2-10     Michael Duncan, Andrew Duncan, and Malcolm Duncan; to her
2-11     great-grandson, Jacob Troup; to her brother, Claude Harper
2-12     McMichael; and to the many other relatives and friends of this
2-13     esteemed Texan; and, be it further
2-14           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-15     prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas
2-16     House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
2-17     Isabelle Burns McMichael Duncan.
