R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to
1-2 recognize April 6, 1999, as Pfizer Legislative Day at the State
1-3 Capitol; and
1-4 WHEREAS, Pfizer, Inc., is a research-based pharmaceutical and
1-5 health care products manufacturer; this year marks the company's
1-6 150th anniversary, and through the years it has grown and
1-7 prospered, now annually generating approximately $13 billion in
1-8 sales and allocating more than $2 billion for research and
1-9 development of new medicinal therapies; and
1-10 WHEREAS, In addition to being responsible for such important
1-11 drugs as Norvasc, Procardia, Zoloft, Zithromax, Trovan, Diflucan,
1-12 and Zyrtec, Pfizer also markets the three most successfully
1-13 launched pharmaceutical products in history, Viagra, Celebrex, and
1-14 Lipitor; current drug candidates in development offer potential
1-15 treatments for cancer, diabetes, osteoporosis, schizophrenia, and
1-16 migraine; and
1-17 WHEREAS, This respected enterprise was recognized by Forbes
1-18 magazine as the Company of the Year, and for two consecutive years
1-19 it was the top-rated pharmaceutical company by Fortune magazine;
1-20 Pfizer has also been listed by American Benefactor magazine as one
1-21 of the most generous companies in the United States, donating more
1-22 than $81 million worth of pharmaceuticals in 1997; and
1-23 WHEREAS, Pfizer has given generously in Texas, donating more
1-24 than $9.4 million in pharmaceutical products through prescription
2-1 assistance programs in 1998 alone and in excess of 400,000
2-2 prescriptions since 1993; last year Pfizer gave roughly $358,000 in
2-3 cash grants to educational and charitable interests and more than
2-4 $100 million worth of pharmaceutical products to physicians for
2-5 dispensation to patients with severely limited financial resources;

3-19 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
3-20 Legislature hereby recognize April 6, 1999, as Pfizer Legislative
3-21 Day at the State Capitol and extend to the members of the Pfizer
3-22 delegation sincere best wishes for an enjoyable visit to the State
3-23 Capitol.
