R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Crowley High School boys' basketball team 1-2 defeated Port Arthur Lincoln High School 60-51 to earn the 1999 UIL 1-3 Class 4A state championship, and this outstanding achievement is 1-4 truly deserving of special recognition; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Head Coach Gary Surratt and his coaching staff ably 1-6 prepared the Eagles for the championship showdown with Port Arthur 1-7 Lincoln; in the thrilling title contest, Crowley held a 23-18 1-8 halftime lead before a Lincoln rally in the third quarter closed 1-9 the margin to one point, but the Eagles pulled away late in the 1-10 fourth period, capping off a stellar 34-4 season with their first 1-11 ever state crown; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Forward Jamell Grandberry was named MVP, helping his 1-13 team to victory by scoring 11 points and grabbing 13 rebounds, 1-14 while the Eagles' balanced offense was led by forward Kevin Risher 1-15 with 13 points and guard Jason Smalls with 12; this impressive 1-16 victory would not have been possible without the contributions of 1-17 all the talented team members, including Brandon Newton, Terry 1-18 Shelton, Corey Washington, Brian Harston, Detron Forbes, Brandon 1-19 Harris, Brandon Harston, Chika Onyekanne, and David Stevens; and 1-20 WHEREAS, The young champions of the Crowley High School boys' 1-21 basketball team have distinguished themselves as formidable 1-22 competitors, and as they take pride in their state championship, it 1-23 is indeed fitting to pay tribute to them for their significant 1-24 accomplishment; now, therefore, be it 2-1 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-2 Legislature hereby congratulate the members of the Crowley High 2-3 School boys' basketball team for winning the 1999 UIL Class 4A 2-4 state championship and extend to them sincere best wishes for 2-5 continued success and happiness; and, be it further 2-6 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-7 prepared for the Crowley High School Eagles boys' basketball team 2-8 as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of 2-9 Representatives.
