No. 559 76R10776 GMW-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Abilene Christian University men's and women's 1-2 track teams recently claimed the NCAA Division II indoor track 1-3 championships, and these outstanding triumphs provide a fitting 1-4 opportunity to reflect on the history of this exceptional track and 1-5 field program; and 1-6 WHEREAS, The Wildcats have won a phenomenal 40 national track 1-7 and field championships, including a record 35 NCAA titles; in 1996 1-8 they became the first school in history to win the men's and 1-9 women's indoor and outdoor titles in the same year; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Wes Kittley has been the head coach of the women's 1-11 team at Abilene Christian since 1984 and has guided the team to a 1-12 record 19 NCAA Division II titles; he expanded his duties to become 1-13 head coach of both teams in 1993, and he has a combined total of 27 1-14 national championships, the third-highest in any sport or division 1-15 in NCAA history; and 1-16 WHEREAS, In addition to 19 team championships, the women's 1-17 program has produced 93 individual and relay national champions, 30 1-18 academic All-Lone Star Conference selections, and 11 academic 1-19 All-Americans since 1984; the team recently earned its seventh 1-20 straight indoor title by scoring a remarkable 119 points, led by 1-21 Delloreen Ennis-London, who won her fourth 55-meter hurdles title 1-22 in an NCAA Division II record time of 7.62, triple jump winner 1-23 Renna Toniste, and Tracey Barnes, who captured her third 400 meter 1-24 title; and 2-1 WHEREAS, The talented women of the 1999 squad are Louise 2-2 Ayotetche, Delloreen Ennis-London, Juanita Robertson, Suzanne 2-3 Dickenson, Shawntel Newhouse, Jaime Hallmark, Tracey Barnes, Freda 2-4 Valdez, Charis Dillman, Dawnyel Newhouse, Renna Toniste, Hillerie 2-5 Shelton, Tracey Gerrick, Geraldine George, Monique Kuenen, Kim 2-6 Jewell, Selena Bettis, and Jane McNeil; and 2-7 WHEREAS, Since 1956 the men's program at Abilene Christian 2-8 has generated 112 individual and relay national champions, 21 team 2-9 national championships, 42 academic All-Lone Star Conference 2-10 selections, and nine academic All-Americans; the 1999 team racked 2-11 up 85 points to claim their fourth straight indoor title, fueled by 2-12 the stellar performances of Jason Prann, who won the 400 meter, 2-13 Gilbert Tuhabonye, who won the 800 meter, and triple jump winner 2-14 Terrance Woods; and 2-15 WHEREAS, The current men's team includes Reggie Hill, Oscar 2-16 Meneses, Julieon Raeburn, Jason Roller, Lincoln London, Marcus 2-17 Mars, Jason Prann, Gilbert Tuhabonye, Jacob Bryant, Alfred Rugema, 2-18 Jesse LaBuff, Barnabas Menjo, Dustin Hawes, James Bagley, Stephen 2-19 Moore, Shaka Huggins, Terrance Woods, Jason Pearce, Sam Patton, and 2-20 Seth Westmoreland; and 2-21 WHEREAS, The dedication to excellence and competitive spirit 2-22 of all the gifted athletes and coaches, past and present, of the 2-23 Abilene Christian University track program are truly commendable, 2-24 and it is indeed fitting to honor them for their significant 2-25 achievements at this time; now, therefore, be it 2-26 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-27 Legislature hereby recognize the accomplishments of the Abilene 3-1 Christian University men's and women's track teams and extend to 3-2 the school's athletes, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for 3-3 continued success; and, be it further 3-4 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 3-5 prepared for the Abilene Christian University men's and women's 3-6 track teams as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of 3-7 Representatives.
