                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, Lake Highlands High School seniors Emily Boulden and
 1-2     Peter Ruth have been selected as Youth of the Month for October
 1-3     1998 by the Exchange Club of Lake Highlands, and these exemplary
 1-4     students are truly deserving of special recognition for their many
 1-5     accomplishments; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, Each month, the Exchange Club of Lake Highlands
 1-7     recognizes two seniors from Lake Highlands High School for
 1-8     superlative academic achievement and noteworthy extracurricular
 1-9     involvement; these deserving individuals receive U.S. Savings Bonds
1-10     and are made eligible for college scholarships to supplement the
1-11     costs of continuing their education; and
1-12           WHEREAS, A three-year member of Mu Alpha Theta and a two-year
1-13     member of the National Honor Society and Student Council,
1-14     Ms. Boulden excels not only in her academic pursuits but also in
1-15     her many musical and theatrical endeavors; she is a member of the
1-16     pop vocal ensemble Espree and the A Cappella Choir and is a member
1-17     and vice president of Theater; and
1-18           WHEREAS, This commendable individual has been recognized as a
1-19     National Merit Finalist, and she has won such awards as
1-20     "Outstanding Musician of Women's Choir, 1997" and "Best Actress in
1-21     a Minor Role, 1998"; in addition to her scholastic pursuits,
1-22     Ms. Boulden has been a member of her church choir since 1993 and
1-23     was a teacher's aide at Preston Hollow Vacation Church School in
1-24     1997; last summer, she assisted with a Habitat for Humanity project
 2-1     in Mississippi; and
 2-2           WHEREAS, Mr. Ruth is president of the National Honor Society,
 2-3     of which he has been a member since 1997, and he is a member of Mu
 2-4     Alpha Theta, Peer Helpers, and the Wranglers, which he serves as
 2-5     dance captain; in addition to his scholarly pursuits, Mr. Ruth is a
 2-6     skilled pianist; and
 2-7           WHEREAS, This remarkable young man is an accomplished athlete
 2-8     and has been named the 1999 Varsity Baseball Captain; he has
 2-9     received such notable awards as the 1998 Most Valuable Football
2-10     Player and has been selected as a Wendy's High School Heisman
2-11     Student-Athlete Award Nominee and a Dallas Morning News Player of
2-12     the Week, and he is an Eagle Scout; and
2-13           WHEREAS, The Youth of the Month Award helps to affirm the
2-14     positive and productive civic, academic, and extracurricular
2-15     participation of the young people of Lake Highlands High School,
2-16     and it is indeed a privilege to recognize the merits of this award
2-17     and pay tribute to the deserving students who are selected to
2-18     receive it; now, therefore, be it
2-19           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
2-20     Legislature hereby congratulate Emily Boulden and Peter Ruth on
2-21     being named Youth of the Month for October 1998 by the Exchange
2-22     Club of Lake Highlands and extend to them best wishes for success
2-23     and happiness in all their future endeavors; and, be it further
2-24           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-25     prepared for Ms. Boulden and Mr. Ruth as an expression of high
2-26     regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
