                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The passing of Charles Sumner Ege, Jr., on August
 1-2     19, 1997, at the age of 77, brought a great loss to the family and
 1-3     friends of this respected Smithville resident; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, Born February 12, 1920, in Kansas City, Missouri,
 1-5     Mr. Ege attended Kansas University and dutifully served his country
 1-6     as a U.S. Army Air Corps pilot in the China-Burma-India theater
 1-7     during World War II; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, This admirable gentleman began a 37-year career with
 1-9     Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in 1946, and worked in Kansas
1-10     City, Beaumont, and Houston before beginning his career as a
1-11     legislative liaison in Austin in 1969; in 1982 he retired to his
1-12     cattle ranch in Smithville; and
1-13           WHEREAS, United in matrimony with Annette Erwin Ege in 1944,
1-14     Mr. Ege was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in
1-15     Smithville and the Tri-City Shrine Club; in addition, he was a past
1-16     member of the Rotary Club of Pasadena and the Ararat Shrine Temple
1-17     in Kansas City, Missouri; and
1-18           WHEREAS, Those who were privileged to share the friendship of
1-19     Charles Sumner Ege, Jr., will long miss his presence, and he will
1-20     surely be remembered with great affection and admiration for many
1-21     years to come; now, therefore, be it
1-22           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
1-23     Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Charles Sumner Ege,
1-24     Jr., and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family:  to
 2-1     his wife, Annette Erwin Ege; to his daughters and sons-in-law,
 2-2     Shary and Paul Horn and Barbara and Joel Smith; to his sons and
 2-3     daughters-in-law, Chuck and Leslie Ege and Doug and Dianne Ege; to
 2-4     his sister, Eleanor Linck; to his grandchildren, Brian and Betsy
 2-5     Horn, Chris and Kendle Ege, Stacy and Caleb Smith, and Michael,
 2-6     Michelle, and Marcus Ege; and to the many other relatives and
 2-7     friends of this fine man; and, be it further
 2-8           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-9     prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
2-10     House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
2-11     Charles Sumner Ege, Jr.
