                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The passing of Alvin Leroy Davis on May 12, 1998, at
 1-2     the age of 57, brought a great loss to the family, friends, and
 1-3     community of this beloved gentleman; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, A native Texan, Mr. Davis was born in Dacus on
 1-5     September 1, 1940; he graduated from Montgomery High School and
 1-6     later attended Texas A&M University; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, This esteemed gentleman's career in education began
 1-8     as a math teacher and coach with the New Waverly Independent School
 1-9     District; he later became principal at Clara Rudd Elementary School
1-10     and New Waverly High School, ultimately achieving the position of
1-11     superintendent for the school district; and
1-12           WHEREAS, Devoting more than 30 years to the education of New
1-13     Waverly students, Mr. Davis was known to attend many of his
1-14     students' extracurricular activities and was an energetic
1-15     administrator who enthusiastically met the needs of the students
1-16     and faculty; one of his final contributions to the community was
1-17     his role in the passing of a bond issue for the construction of a
1-18     new middle school; and
1-19           WHEREAS, Alvin Leroy Davis was a man of rare vision who was a
1-20     leading member of his community, and though his wisdom and
1-21     compassion will be greatly missed, his unique spirit will surely
1-22     live on for many years to come in the hearts of all those who were
1-23     privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it
1-24           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
 2-1     Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Alvin Leroy Davis and
 2-2     extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family:  to his
 2-3     mother, Jo Gregg; to his son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Cindy
 2-4     Davis; to his daughter and son-in-law, Cindi and Carroll Wayne
 2-5     Hurst; to his sister, Clara Sanchez; to his brother, John Davis; to
 2-6     his grandchildren, Lexi Davis, Laken Davis, Lindsey Davis, and
 2-7     Taylor Hurst; to his nieces and nephews; and to the many other
 2-8     relatives and friends of this respected gentleman; and, be it
 2-9     further
2-10           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-11     prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
2-12     House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
2-13     Alvin Leroy Davis.
