R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, Luther C. "Sandy" Moore celebrated his 94th birthday
1-2 on March 26, 1999, and this occasion is indeed worthy of special
1-3 legislative recognition; and
1-4 WHEREAS, A native of Camden, Arkansas, Mr. Moore was born to
1-5 Don Duane and Martha Bell Moore on March 26, 1905; he attended
1-6 Livingston High School, graduating in 1924, and continued his
1-7 education at Sam Houston State University, earning bachelor's and
1-8 master's degrees; and
1-9 WHEREAS, Mr. Moore maintained his commitment to education by
1-10 pursuing a career as a teacher in Polk County and taught at schools
1-11 in Analaska, Camp Ruby, East Tempe, Carmona, and Corrigan; in 1939,
1-12 this remarkable individual began what would become a 41-year tenure
1-13 as county school superintendent, a post he held with distinction
1-14 until his retirement in January 1980; and
1-15 WHEREAS, He has also served his fellow citizens as a charter
1-16 member and first president of the Lions Club, director of the
1-17 chamber of commerce, scoutmaster, and merit badge instructor for
1-18 the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts of America; and
1-19 WHEREAS, A longtime member of the Democratic Party, Mr. Moore
1-20 has demonstrated his dedication to the Lone Star State as a member
1-21 of the Heritage Society and the Historical Heritage Society and as
1-22 chairman of the Texas Historical Commission's Historical Marker
1-23 Committee; and
1-24 WHEREAS, Sandy Moore has made many wonderful contributions to
2-1 his fellow citizens, and it is indeed a pleasure to offer him best
2-2 wishes for a happy 94th birthday at this time; now, therefore, be
2-3 it
2-4 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
2-5 Legislature hereby recognize the 94th birthday of Luther C. "Sandy"
2-6 Moore; and, be it further
2-7 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-8 prepared for Mr. Moore as an expression of high esteem from the
2-9 Texas House of Representatives.
