R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, Thomas M. Dunning of Dallas has been chosen to
1-2 receive the 70th Annual Linz Award, and in light of this
1-3 outstanding honor and his many years of diligent community service,
1-4 he is truly worthy of special recognition; and
1-5 WHEREAS, At the award luncheon to be held on April 20, 1999,
1-6 Mr. Dunning will receive this prestigious accolade, which is
1-7 presented annually to the individual whose humanitarian efforts in
1-8 the previous year most benefitted the Dallas community; nominations
1-9 for this estimable award are made by the public and the recipient
1-10 is chosen by a committee of civic and business leaders; and
1-11 WHEREAS, A graduate of The University of Texas at Austin,
1-12 Mr. Dunning is chairman and CEO of Lockton Dunning Benefit Company,
1-13 a full service corporate health and welfare benefits firm serving
1-14 many of the largest publicly and privately held companies in the
1-15 Dallas/Fort Worth area; and
1-16 WHEREAS, Despite his demanding professional life, this
1-17 dedicated community leader has always made time in his busy
1-18 schedule to benefit others, accepting gubernatorial appointments to
1-19 serve the Texas State Highway and Public Transportation Commission,
1-20 Texas Department of Human Services, Texas Board of Criminal
1-21 Justice, and Texas Water Development Board; at the behest of the
1-22 Dallas mayor and the Dallas City Council, he chaired Dallas
1-23 Together and the Dallas Homeless Task Force and he served on the
1-24 Park and Recreation Board and the DFW International Airport Board;
2-1 and
2-2 WHEREAS, Mr. Dunning has also been active with the Dallas
2-3 Alliance, Dallas Assembly, State Fair of Texas, and on the boards
2-4 of the Dallas Citizens Council and the Greater Dallas Chamber of
2-5 Commerce; a staunch supporter of education, he has donated his time
2-6 and expertise to the executive committee of The University of Texas
2-7 at Dallas and the Dallas Independent School District Bond Program,
2-8 as well as serving on the board of the Baylor College of Dentistry
2-9 and chairing the Universities Center at Dallas and the University
2-10 of North Texas System Center; and
2-11 WHEREAS, In recognition of his selfless contributions through
2-12 the years, Mr. Dunning received the Human Relations Award from the
2-13 American Jewish Committee in 1988 and a Certificate of Appreciation
2-14 award from the Greater Dallas Community Relations Commission in
2-15 1990; and
2-16 WHEREAS, Thomas M. Dunning is a true humanitarian whose
2-17 philanthropic efforts have greatly benefitted the citizens of
2-18 Dallas and the Lone Star State, and it is indeed fitting to pay
2-19 tribute to him at this time; now, therefore, be it
2-20 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
2-21 Legislature hereby congratulate Thomas M. Dunning on his receipt of
2-22 the 70th Annual Linz Award and extend to him sincere best wishes
2-23 for continued success and happiness; and, be it further
2-24 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-25 prepared for Mr. Dunning as an expression of high regard by the
2-26 Texas House of Representatives.
