No. 579 76R10639 GMW-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The distinguished career of Dripping Springs High 1-2 School Lady Tigers head basketball coach Jerry English is truly 1-3 worthy of special recognition; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Coach English has coached in the Dripping Springs 1-5 Independent School District for the past 12 years, compiling an 1-6 impressive record of 312-99 while running his career totals to 1-7 831-188; in the 1998-1999 school year, his Lady Tigers began 1-8 competing at the Class 4A level, and in the team's first year in a 1-9 new division Coach English led its members to the district title 1-10 and into the regional finals of the state playoffs; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Under his expert guidance the Lady Tigers have 1-12 become a hard court powerhouse, winning the state championship in 1-13 1994, finishing as state runners-up in 1993, 1995, and 1997, and as 1-14 a semifinalist in 1998; in addition to notching eight district 1-15 championships from 1989 to 1999, the Lady Tigers were also regional 1-16 champions in 1993-1995, 1997, and 1998, finalists in 1999, and 1-17 semifinalists in 1989; and 1-18 WHEREAS, A member of the Texas Association of Basketball 1-19 Coaches (TABC), Coach English was named the Central Texas Girls 1-20 Basketball Coach of the Year by the Austin American-Statesman on 1-21 three occasions, was similarly honored by the Texas Sportswriters 1-22 Association in 1994, and was selected as Baden Girls Basketball 1-23 State Coach of the Year in 1994; he also was chosen to coach the 1-24 North All-Star Team for TABC in 1990 and was selected by that 2-1 organization as a regional director in 1997; and 2-2 WHEREAS, Coach English has established a remarkable winning 2-3 basketball tradition at Dripping Springs High School, and it is 2-4 indeed fitting to pay tribute to him at this time for his many 2-5 years of excellence; now, therefore, be it 2-6 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-7 Legislature hereby commend Dripping Springs High School Lady Tigers 2-8 head basketball coach Jerry English on his outstanding career and 2-9 extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success and 2-10 happiness; and, be it further 2-11 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-12 prepared for Coach English as an expression of high regard by the 2-13 Texas House of Representatives.
