                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The birthday of a notable Texan is indeed an
 1-2     occasion worthy of special recognition, and on April 9, 1999, Eva
 1-3     Camunez Tucker of San Angelo will celebrate one such memorable
 1-4     milestone as she commemorates her 88th birthday; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, A native Texan, Mrs. Tucker has long believed in the
 1-6     fundamental value of education; in the 1920s she overcame social
 1-7     obstacles and adversity to fulfill her goal and become a teacher,
 1-8     and she later was promoted to the post of principal of a school in
 1-9     San Angelo in the 1930s; and
1-10           WHEREAS, Through the years, Mrs. Tucker has served as an
1-11     exemplary role model for young Hispanics; the development of her
1-12     leadership skills can be traced to her early days as a young
1-13     teacher when she taught 200 students, in all seven grades, in one
1-14     classroom, while also providing them with religion lessons at the
1-15     parish church; this fine woman stresses the importance of religion
1-16     in the formation of character and the intrinsic value of service to
1-17     others, and she truly embodies these ideals; and
1-18           WHEREAS, Deeply committed to her country, Mrs. Tucker
1-19     accepted a reduction in pay to work as a mail censor in San Antonio
1-20     during World War II, and she went on to work as a translator of
1-21     legal documents for the U.S. Department of State in Washington,
1-22     D.C.; and
1-23           WHEREAS, In 1948, this devoted woman was united in matrimony
1-24     with Art Tucker, an independent oil producer from Ballinger; after
 2-1     their union she managed the family trucking company, which involved
 2-2     the scheduling of routes for truckers, dispensing of payroll, and
 2-3     oversight of fiscal affairs; and
 2-4           WHEREAS, A prominent resident of San Angelo, Mrs. Tucker has,
 2-5     despite her success as a businesswoman, maintained a simple
 2-6     lifestyle, and to this day she resides in her childhood home; she
 2-7     is a dedicated philanthropist and has demonstrated her abiding love
 2-8     for this state and its people by her generous support of countless
 2-9     charitable civic, religious, cultural, and educational causes in
2-10     her community and throughout Texas; now, therefore, be it
2-11           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
2-12     Legislature hereby recognize April 9, 1999, as Eva Camunez Tucker
2-13     Day at the State Capitol in honor of this lovely lady's many good
2-14     works and extend to her sincere best wishes on the occasion of her
2-15     88th birthday; and, be it further
2-16           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-17     prepared for Mrs. Tucker as an expression of high regard by the
2-18     Texas House of Representatives.
