                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The week of April 4-10, 1999, is being observed as
 1-2     International Building Safety Week and this notable occasion is
 1-3     most deserving of special recognition; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, Among the world's most fundamental laws are those
 1-5     that provide safety standards for the construction of buildings in
 1-6     which people live, work, and play; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, For construction and building codes to be effective
 1-8     and enforceable, understanding and cooperation must exist between
 1-9     code officials and the people they serve; and
1-10           WHEREAS, The dedicated individuals who serve as code
1-11     officials work cooperatively with those employed in the
1-12     construction industry to ensure that these essential health and
1-13     life-safety standards are met; and
1-14           WHEREAS, To promote the use of building and construction
1-15     codes today for a lifetime of  building safety, governmental
1-16     entities across the world have united their efforts with those of
1-17     such prestigious organizations as Building Officials & Code
1-18     Administrators International, Inc., International Conference of
1-19     Building Officials, Southern Building Code Congress International,
1-20     Inc., the Council of American Building Officials, the National
1-21     Conference of States on Building Codes and Standards, and the World
1-22     Organization of Building Officials; and
1-23           WHEREAS, The theme of this year's International Building
1-24     Safety Week is "For a Safer Tomorrow" and it is truly appropriate
 2-1     that those men and women dedicated to the cause of enhancing
 2-2     building safety be honored for their efforts at this time; now,
 2-3     therefore, be it
 2-4           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
 2-5     Legislature hereby recognize the week of April 4-10, 1999, as
 2-6     International Building Safety Week and urge all Texans to
 2-7     participate in the observance of this vital initiative.
