                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The CE-Bar Volunteer Fire Department can trace its
 1-2     history back to July 4, 1966, when A. J. "Strawberry" Sanford noted
 1-3     the critical need for fire protection in the area, and this year
 1-4     the department marks the 30th anniversary of its organization; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, Named for the CE-Bar Ranch, which was in its service
 1-6     area, the department began its operation in 1969 and initially
 1-7     acquired a 1928-model American LaFrance pumper, shovels, and wet
 1-8     burlap sacks to serve as its fire-fighting gear; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, Equipment was stored and training was conducted at
1-10     neighborhood residences until CE-Bar Fire Station Number One was
1-11     built at 2302 San Juan Drive through the gracious donation of
1-12     property by Galen Simmons and Travis County Water Control and
1-13     Improvement District 18; and
1-14           WHEREAS, The CE-Bar Volunteer Fire Department served Travis
1-15     County Rural Fire Protection District #10 for 10 years, and in 1995
1-16     it began providing fire and rescue services for Travis County
1-17     Emergency Services District #10; today the department protects a
1-18     large area in western Travis County, and its 35 volunteers and two
1-19     paid firefighters are led by Chief Charles "Buddy" Crain; and
1-20           WHEREAS, In this historic year of 1999, the CE-Bar Volunteer
1-21     Fire Department is celebrating its 30 years of community service
1-22     with a groundbreaking ceremony for a modern central fire station
1-23     that will not only house its fire-fighting apparatus, but also
1-24     offer training facilities and community meeting accommodations; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, At this time, it is most fitting that all those
 2-2     associated with the CE-Bar Volunteer Fire Department be commended
 2-3     for the courage and leadership they have shown in behalf of their
 2-4     community through the years; now, therefore, be it
 2-5           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
 2-6     Legislature hereby commemorate the 30th anniversary of the CE-Bar
 2-7     Volunteer Fire Department and honor its members for their efforts
 2-8     to safeguard the lives and property of their fellow Texans; and, be
 2-9     it further
2-10           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-11     prepared for the members of the CE-Bar Volunteer Fire Department as
2-12     an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
