                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives takes special
 1-2     pride in honoring Amy Philips-Redclift for her commendable
 1-3     achievements and for the recognition she has received as 1999 New
 1-4     Braunfels Junior Miss and 1999 Texas' Junior Miss; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, The Junior Miss Program is a nonprofit program that
 1-6     honors outstanding high school senior girls and recognizes,
 1-7     rewards, and encourages excellence from those who participate while
 1-8     promoting their self-esteem; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, After securing the New Braunfels Junior Miss title,
1-10     Miss Philips-Redclift traveled to San Antonio, where she was named
1-11     1999 Texas' Junior Miss; as an indication of her knowledge of the
1-12     Lone Star State, she was the only participant who was able to name
1-13     her senators and representatives during the interview portion; and
1-14            WHEREAS, A senior at Smithson Valley High School, Miss
1-15     Philips-Redclift is a dedicated and accomplished student who is a
1-16     member of the National Honor Society and the academic decathlon and
1-17     debate teams; in addition to her academic pursuits, she is a band
1-18     and choir member, a varsity cheerleader, and a UCA All Star
1-19     Cheerleader; and
1-20           WHEREAS, This gracious young woman is a tutor and volunteer
1-21     for the American Red Cross, and following the devastating flood in
1-22     October 1998 she devoted many hours to the cleanup efforts of her
1-23     community; in addition, Miss Philips-Redclift teaches Sunday school
1-24     at her church; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, Miss Philips-Redclift is planning to attend Stanford
 2-2     University after graduation; the uncommon character that is
 2-3     evidenced by her dedication to academics, to her family, and to the
 2-4     welfare of her fellow citizens instills pride in all who know and
 2-5     love her, and it is indeed fitting to honor this outstanding young
 2-6     Texan at this time; now, therefore, be it
 2-7           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th
 2-8     Legislature hereby commend Amy Philips-Redclift for being awarded
 2-9     the titles of 1999 New Braunfels Junior Miss and 1999 Texas' Junior
2-10     Miss and extend to her best wishes for success in the America's
2-11     Junior Miss Program and in all of her future endeavors; and, be it
2-12     further
2-13           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-14     prepared for Miss Philips-Redclift as a token of high regard by the
2-15     Texas House of Representatives.
