                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, Since 1973, the Texas Council for the Humanities, a
 1-2     state partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities, has
 1-3     cultivated our rich cultural heritage, our civic spirit, and our
 1-4     connections to each other; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, The Texas Council for the Humanities has been a
 1-6     force in fostering public understanding and appreciation of Texas'
 1-7     participation in the global community and enlarging our awareness
 1-8     of the role the Lone Star State can play; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, Over the course of the past 25 years, the Texas
1-10     Council for the Humanities has funded more than 1,500 grant
1-11     proposals from libraries, museums, colleges, universities, and
1-12     other cultural organizations in Texas with $9.1 million, matched by
1-13     sponsor cost-share and private donations totaling nearly $26
1-14     million; and
1-15           WHEREAS, These grants have supported organizations in the
1-16     largest metropolitan areas and in the smallest towns for programs
1-17     that preserve community heritage and promote cultural
1-18     understanding; and
1-19           WHEREAS, This commendable organization also provides
1-20     resources, workshops, classroom materials, school exhibits, and
1-21     technological resources for Texas elementary and secondary
1-22     teachers; and
1-23           WHEREAS, With Outstanding Teacher of the Humanities Awards,
1-24     the Texas Council for the Humanities recognizes teachers who are
 2-1     creative in bringing foreign language, history, social studies, and
 2-2     English language arts to their classrooms; and
 2-3           WHEREAS, For 25 years, the Texas Council for the Humanities
 2-4     has fostered ideas and values that form strong communities and
 2-5     nourish an appreciation for our history, literature, and
 2-6     philosophies; now, therefore, be it
 2-7           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
 2-8     Legislature hereby commend the Texas Council for the Humanities for
 2-9     25 years of service to the citizens of the Lone Star State; and, be
2-10     it further
2-11           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-12     prepared for the governing board of the Texas Council for the
2-13     Humanities as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of
2-14     Representatives.
