No. 609 76R11239 JBR-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, A golden wedding anniversary is indeed cause for 1-2 celebration, and on April 17, 1999, Delmer and Eleanor Guynes of 1-3 Waxahachie will observe this significant milestone; and 1-4 WHEREAS, United in matrimony on April 17, 1949, in 1-5 Waxahachie, this devoted couple has been blessed with four 1-6 children, Rebecca Smith, Patricia Brooks, Del Guynes, and Janette 1-7 Triplett, as well as 13 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; 1-8 and 1-9 WHEREAS, Dr. and Mrs. Guynes met while attending Southwestern 1-10 Assemblies of God College in Waxahachie and after their marriage 1-11 they pastored in Caldwell until 1954, when they moved to Malaysia 1-12 to serve as Assemblies of God missionaries; since that time they 1-13 have continued to devote their lives to sharing their faith with 1-14 others; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Through the years, the Guyneses have served as 1-16 missionaries in Hong Kong and have worked as educators, while also 1-17 completing several high-level degrees; in 1982 they returned to 1-18 their alma mater, now Southwestern Assemblies of God University, 1-19 and Dr. Guynes initiated his tenure as president of the university, 1-20 while Mrs. Guynes began a full-time teaching career that ended with 1-21 her retirement in 1995; and 1-22 WHEREAS, During Dr. Guynes's tenure as president, enrollment 1-23 has increased to nearly 1,700 students, and he and his wife have 1-24 gained the lasting respect of all those associated with 2-1 Southwestern Assemblies of God University; and 2-2 WHEREAS, For half a century, Dr. and Mrs. Guynes have shared 2-3 a warm and affectionate relationship filled with many happy times 2-4 and cherished family memories, and it is truly fitting that they be 2-5 recognized at this time; now, therefore, be it 2-6 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-7 Legislature hereby honor Delmer and Eleanor Guynes on their 50th 2-8 wedding anniversary and extend to them sincere best wishes for 2-9 continued happiness; and, be it further 2-10 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-11 prepared for Dr. and Mrs. Guynes as an expression of high regard by 2-12 the Texas House of Representatives.
