By Gallego H.R. No. 614 76R311 JTR-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The family and many friends of Donald R. "Don" 1-2 Stockburger were greatly saddened by his death on September 23, 1-3 1997, at the age of 63, and we join them in mourning their loss; 1-4 and 1-5 WHEREAS, A resident of Fort Stockton for almost three 1-6 decades, Mr. Stockburger was employed by the Pecos County Sheriff's 1-7 Department for the last 11 years of his life, working first as a 1-8 jailer and eventually becoming a deputy sheriff; and 1-9 WHEREAS, He is remembered by his colleagues as a lawman of 1-10 ability and integrity, and the enthusiasm and energy he brought to 1-11 his work will be greatly missed by all those fortunate enough to 1-12 have worked with him; and 1-13 WHEREAS, His steadfast commitment to the protection of his 1-14 fellow citizens had tragic consequences when he was shot by a 1-15 burglary suspect in 1990, and the wounds he incurred at that time 1-16 continued to plague his health until his death; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Mr. Stockburger met this adversity with his 1-18 characteristic strength and resolve, demonstrating the same courage 1-19 in dealing with the shooting's aftermath as he did in the line of 1-20 duty; and 1-21 WHEREAS, Those who dedicate themselves to the difficult and 1-22 dangerous profession of law enforcement are truly deserving of 1-23 every Texan's admiration and gratitude; Don Stockburger was one 1-24 such individual, and it is indeed fitting that we pay tribute to 2-1 his life and work; now, therefore, be it 2-2 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-3 Legislature hereby honor the memory of Deputy Sheriff Donald R. 2-4 "Don" Stockburger and extend sincere sympathy to his family and 2-5 friends; and, be it further 2-6 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-7 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas 2-8 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of 2-9 Donald R. "Don" Stockburger.
