R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The recent passing of the Reverend Johnnie L. Eades,
1-2 Sr., of Dallas, on March 29, 1999, at the age of 83, has brought a
1-3 great loss to the family and friends of this esteemed gentleman;
1-4 and
1-5 WHEREAS, Born February 28, 1916, Reverend Eades joined the
1-6 Greater Providence Baptist Church in 1936, three years after moving
1-7 to Dallas; a man of great faith, he was appointed minister of that
1-8 institution in 1958 and served in that capacity until his
1-9 retirement some 40 years later; his lengthy tenure was marked with
1-10 dedication and devotion to the congregation of the Greater
1-11 Providence Baptist Church; and
1-12 WHEREAS, Reverend Eades expressed his faith through civic
1-13 involvement as well, and his membership in the Dallas Baptist
1-14 Ministers Union, the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance, the
1-15 North Texas District Association, and the National Baptist
1-16 Convention of America, Inc., provided additional outlets for his
1-17 beliefs and insightful teachings; and
1-18 WHEREAS, Those who were privileged to share the friendship of
1-19 the Reverend Johnnie L. Eades, Sr., will long miss his presence and
1-20 guidance, for his passing has deprived them of a special
1-21 individual, and he will surely be remembered with great affection
1-22 and admiration for many years to come; now, therefore, be it
1-23 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
1-24 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of the Reverend Johnnie
2-1 L. Eades, Sr., and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his
2-2 family: to his wife, Pallie Eades; to his sons, the Reverend J. L.
2-3 Eades, Jr., and the Reverend Melvin Eades; to his daughters, the
2-4 Reverend Annetta Armstrong, Faye Story, and Vesta Walker; to his
2-5 three sisters; to his seven grandsons and 29 great-grandchildren;
2-6 and to the many other relatives and friends of this beloved man;
2-7 and, be it further
2-8 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-9 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
2-10 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
2-11 the Reverend Johnnie L. Eades, Sr.
