R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Reverend Donald Roy Dickson of Houston has long 1-2 devoted himself to serving his faith and the greater community, and 1-3 he is truly deserving of special recognition at this time; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Pastor of the Greater New Hope Missionary Baptist 1-5 Church since February 1997, Reverend Dickson has also been a 1-6 lifelong member of the Progressive New Hope Missionary Baptist 1-7 Church, in which capacity he has generously shared his time and 1-8 energy as a member of the choir, second vice president of the 1-9 brotherhood, deacon, superintendent of the church school, and 1-10 associate minister; in addition, he is a lifelong member of the 1-11 South Texas District Association; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Reverend Dickson was born in 1940 in Houston and 1-13 attended Blackshear Elementary School and Jack Yates junior and 1-14 senior high schools; he distinguished himself both academically and 1-15 athletically throughout the course of his school years and 1-16 graduated in 1958; and 1-17 WHEREAS, This outstanding gentleman earned an athletic 1-18 scholarship to Texas Southern University, and he obtained his 1-19 bachelor of science and master of science degrees, as well as 1-20 administrative certification, from the school; he continued his 1-21 pursuit of academic excellence at the Institute of Biblical Studies 1-22 and is also a graduate of that fine school; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Reverend Dickson and his wife, the former Johnnie M. 1-24 Coutee of Lufkin, are the proud parents of three children, Johnny, 2-1 Anthony, and Donna; and 2-2 WHEREAS, For the past two years, Reverend Dickson has 2-3 provided spiritual direction to many who have sought his wisdom and 2-4 counsel, and his efforts in behalf of others have provided 2-5 much-needed support and inspiration to countless individuals; now, 2-6 therefore, be it 2-7 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-8 Legislature hereby congratulate the Reverend Donald Roy Dickson on 2-9 the occasion of his pastoral anniversary at Greater New Hope 2-10 Missionary Baptist Church and that he be extended sincere best 2-11 wishes for continued success; and, be it further 2-12 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-13 prepared for Reverend Dickson as an expression of high regard by 2-14 the Texas House of Representatives.
