                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, College Station's Bill Erwin has been named the 1999
 1-2     Lone Star Achievement Award winner, and this noteworthy individual
 1-3     is indeed deserving of special legislative recognition for this
 1-4     accomplishment and for his legacy of community service; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, A resident of the Bryan-College Station area since
 1-6     1967, Mr. Erwin is a graduate of Austin College and enjoyed a
 1-7     fulfilling 35-year career with GTE that ended with his retirement
 1-8     in 1996; his employment included positions ranging from salesman to
 1-9     communications consultant to customer service manager, and
1-10     ultimately to his role as public affairs manager; and
1-11           WHEREAS, Despite the demands of his job, Mr. Erwin long ago
1-12     established himself as a vital member of his community through his
1-13     participation in numerous charitable and civic-minded organizations
1-14     and associations, including the United Way of Brazos County, the
1-15     St. Joseph Foundation of Bryan, the Bryan-College Station Chamber
1-16     of Commerce, and the Better Business Bureau of Brazos Valley, Inc.,
1-17     all of which he served in leadership roles; and
1-18           WHEREAS, Mr. Erwin's community service record runs the gamut
1-19     from health-related issues to business concerns, with additional
1-20     support provided to local media and fine arts organizations; he has
1-21     served as a board or committee member of the American Heart
1-22     Association, the American Cancer Society, the American Diabetes
1-23     Association, and the Arts Council of Brazos Valley, as well as many
1-24     other fine groups; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, This esteemed individual is the recipient of
 2-2     numerous awards and accolades, such as the Bryan-College Station
 2-3     Jaycees' 1971 Outstanding Young Man of Brazos County award, the
 2-4     Boys Club's 1988 Man of the Year award, and the Bryan-College
 2-5     Station Chamber of Commerce's 1991 Volunteer of the Year award; he
 2-6     has received much love and support in his endeavors from his wife,
 2-7     Barbara, and from his children, Karen, David, and Amy, and he has
 2-8     been blessed with two wonderful grandchildren, Jay Gillespie and
 2-9     David Andrew Erwin; and
2-10           WHEREAS, The need for leadership in our communities cannot be
2-11     overstated, and Bill Erwin has truly been a role model in this
2-12     regard; his integrity and commitment to his fellow citizens are
2-13     most admirable, and his positive example is an inspiration to all
2-14     who know this fine man; now, therefore, be it
2-15           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
2-16     Legislature hereby congratulate Bill Erwin on his receipt of the
2-17     1999 Lone Star Achievement Award and commend him for his many years
2-18     of dedicated community service; and, be it further
2-19           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-20     prepared for Mr. Erwin as an expression of high regard by the Texas
2-21     House of Representatives.
