No. 638 76R11666 GMW-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The members and supporters of the O'Donnell High 1-2 School Eagles football team enjoyed an outstanding 1998 season, and 1-3 it is indeed appropriate to honor them at this time; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Head coach and athletic director Kevin Spiller and 1-5 his coaching staff of Kevin James, Wade McLain, Steve Patridge, and 1-6 Billy Wilson skillfully guided the Eagles to a school record of 11 1-7 victories; the team also advanced to the quarterfinal round of the 1-8 state playoffs for the first time, finishing the season ranked 1-9 seventh in the state with a stellar 11-2 record; and 1-10 WHEREAS, The mighty Eagles offense averaged roughly 42 points 1-11 a game and was fueled in part by running back Tatum Bessire, who 1-12 scored 39 touchdowns and became the school's first player to 1-13 eclipse the 2,000 yards rushing barrier, racking up an impressive 1-14 total of 2,028 yards; and 1-15 WHEREAS, This remarkable season would not have been possible 1-16 without the contributions of all the talented team members, 1-17 including Manny Gutierrez, Albert Gloria, Jerry Garza, Jaybo Webb, 1-18 Ramiro Montez, David Soto, Kerry Don Ortiz, Scott Olivan, Bobby 1-19 Perez, Casey Barnes, John David Velasquez, Rene Sanchez, Jesus 1-20 Villa, Valentine Luera, Kyle James, Britt Childress, Bradley Stout, 1-21 Patrick Wells, Erick Sanchez, Wacey Hawkins, Jerardo Castillo, 1-22 Jonathon Read, Jose Villa, and Manuel Trevino; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Other contributors to the team's success were 1-24 managers Whitney Hughes, Tonya Forbes, Lindsey McLain, and Michelle 2-1 Rios, trainer Wayland Robins, superintendent Dale Read, and 2-2 principal Mike Read; the Eagles also received invaluable support 2-3 from cheerleaders Lisa Contreras, Monica Renteria, Jill Clark, 2-4 Jenna Bessire, Kristin Farmer, and April Nava, mascot Angie Hunter, 2-5 sponsor Sarah Edwards, and band director Gary Beach; and 2-6 WHEREAS, The dedication and competitive spirit of the 2-7 O'Donnell High School Eagles football team and its devoted 2-8 supporters are truly commendable, and for their significant 2-9 accomplishments during the 1998 season they are most worthy of 2-10 special recognition; now, therefore, be it 2-11 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-12 Legislature hereby honor all those associated with the O'Donnell 2-13 High School football team for their impressive 1998 season and 2-14 extend to them sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be 2-15 it further 2-16 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-17 prepared for the O'Donnell High School Eagles as an expression of 2-18 high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
