R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The passing of Ida Mae Davis, the mother of our 1-2 esteemed colleague, State Representative Yvonne Davis, on April 4, 1-3 1999, at the age of 72, brought a great loss to the family and 1-4 friends of this beloved Odessa resident; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Born May 22, 1926, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, this 1-6 dynamic woman graduated from high school in Garland before 1-7 attending college at Huston-Tillotson College in Austin; and 1-8 WHEREAS, Until her retirement in 1993, Mrs. Davis worked for 1-9 the Housing Authority of the City of Odessa as an apartment manager 1-10 and counselor; her work was characterized by the dedicated service 1-11 she provided to her clients and her willingness to go above and 1-12 beyond the duties of her job in order to secure individuals' needs; 1-13 and 1-14 WHEREAS, Affectionately known as "Sweetie Pie," she was 1-15 active in her community as a member of Saint Matthew Baptist Church 1-16 and contributed to the youth of her community as a den mother for 1-17 the Cub Scouts and as a volunteer for the Woodson Boys Club; 1-18 Mrs. Davis also took a great interest in politics and assisted with 1-19 a number of local and state campaigns; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Through her compassion for others and kind heart, 1-21 Ida Mae Davis touched the lives of many people, and her unique 1-22 spirit will surely live on for many years to come in the hearts of 1-23 all those who were privileged to know her; now, therefore, be it 1-24 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-1 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Ida Mae Davis and 2-2 extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her 2-3 daughters and son-in-law, the Honorable Yvonne Davis, Mattie 2-4 Mellonee Youngblood, and Helen Youngblood Wilson and her husband, 2-5 Jerry; to her sons and daughters-in-law, Carl Youngblood, Tracy 2-6 Youngblood, Jr., and his wife, Ada, and Joe Davis and his wife, 2-7 Gaye; to her brothers and sister-in-law, George Spivey, Perry Joe 2-8 Spivey, and William Spivey and his wife, Marie; to her sister, 2-9 Naomi Spivey; to her sister-in-law, Myrtle Spivey; to her seven 2-10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; to her niece, Mari 2-11 Willis, and her husband, Kirk, and her other nieces and nephews; 2-12 and to the many friends of this remarkable woman; and, be it 2-13 further 2-14 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-15 prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas 2-16 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of 2-17 Ida Mae Davis.
