                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The passing of Bedford Walters of Alpine on June 28,
 1-2     1998, at the age of 87, has brought a great loss to the family and
 1-3     many friends of this esteemed resident of the Lone Star State; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, Born in Roswell, New Mexico, on September 12, 1910,
 1-5     Mr. Walters grew up in El Paso; in 1933, he married Marie Louise
 1-6     Moore in Las Cruces, New Mexico, and the two soon returned to Texas
 1-7     and settled in Fabens, where Mr. Walters took a job with Ellis
 1-8     Motor Company; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Walters were blessed with two children,
1-10     a son, Bedford, and a daughter, Glena, and their years together
1-11     were truly happy ones, filled with many joyful times and cherished
1-12     family memories; and
1-13           WHEREAS, A dedicated father and concerned citizen,
1-14     Mr. Walters was active in the Fabens community, and his many
1-15     accomplishments included service on the Fabens School Board; and
1-16           WHEREAS, In 1960, Mr. and Mrs. Walters moved to Alpine and
1-17     for more than 20 years Mr. Walters was a valued employee of Casner
1-18     Automotive, in which capacity his experience and insight made him a
1-19     highly respected member of the staff; and
1-20           WHEREAS, Because of the importance he placed on community
1-21     involvement and participation, Mr. Walters was a  devoted member of
1-22     the Alpine Lions Club, one whose commitment and positive attitude
1-23     were always an example for others; and
1-24           WHEREAS, Though his presence and guidance are sorely missed,
 2-1     his spirit surely lives on in the hearts and minds of all who were
 2-2     privileged to know this remarkable Texan, and it is indeed fitting
 2-3     to honor his memory at this time; now, therefore, be it
 2-4           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
 2-5     Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Bedford Walters and
 2-6     extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife,
 2-7     Marie Louise Walters; to his son, Bedford J. Walters; to his
 2-8     daughter, Glena Shirley; to his brother, Otto Walters; to his
 2-9     sister, Margaret Walters; to his five grandchildren and seven
2-10     great-grandchildren; and to all the other family members and
2-11     friends of this singular gentleman; and, be it further
2-12           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-13     prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
2-14     House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
2-15     Bedford Walters.
