R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, On June 18-20, 1999, descendants of Johnny and Rosie
 1-2     Whitley will gather in Washington, Texas, for their annual family
 1-3     reunion; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, Opportunities to socialize will abound during this
 1-5     three-day event, which will begin with a fish fry on Friday,
 1-6     continue with a dinner and dance on Saturday, and culminate on
 1-7     Sunday with a tribute to the family's fathers at Mount Zion A.M.E.
 1-8     Church; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, Family members and friends will journey to the
1-10     "Whitley Bottom" from such far-off points as Las Vegas, Nevada;
1-11     Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and Kansas City, Missouri; and
1-12           WHEREAS, After holding their annual reunion in Port Arthur
1-13     several times, the family chose to return to Washington, the town
1-14     where Johnny and Rosie Whitley, their children, and their
1-15     grandchildren were born and raised; family history buffs will enjoy
1-16     visiting nearby Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historical Park, the
1-17     site of the signing of the Texas Declaration of Independence and
1-18     the drafting of the Constitution of the Republic of Texas; and
1-19           WHEREAS, The contributions made by Johnny and Rosie Whitley
1-20     and their descendants are interwoven with the colorful history of
1-21     the Lone Star State, and it is indeed fitting that this fine Texas
1-22     family be acknowledged at this time; now, therefore, be it
1-23           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
1-24     Legislature hereby commemorate the annual Whitley Family Reunion
 2-1     and extend to all members of the Whitley family warmest best wishes
 2-2     for an enjoyable reunion; and, be it further
 2-3           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-4     prepared for the Whitley family as an expression of high regard by
 2-5     the Texas House of Representatives.
