No. 706 76R12768 MDM-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to 1-2 congratulate the members of the first graduating class of Caney 1-3 Creek High School (CCHS) in Conroe, and their many accomplishments 1-4 are indeed worthy of recognition at this time; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Caney Creek High School's Class of 1999 has 238 1-6 members based on campus plus 30 students who attend class at Hauke 1-7 Alternative School; the young men and women of the senior class 1-8 have led the student body to remarkable levels of achievement 1-9 during the school's first years; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Excelling academically, two students have been named 1-11 National Merit Commended Scholars and one was selected as a 1-12 National Merit Hispanic Scholar Finalist; two athletes were chosen 1-13 as members of the All-State All-Academic Football Team; and 1-14 WHEREAS, The 1999 science fair competition afforded more 1-15 opportunities for Caney Creek students to shine; 26 students 1-16 qualified for the district competition, 14 progressed to the 1-17 Houston Regional Science and Engineering Fair, and two of those 1-18 students received special monetary awards in math; two students 1-19 qualified at the district level in a criminal justice program 1-20 sponsored by the Conroe Independent School District and will 1-21 compete in May at the state level; and 1-22 WHEREAS, "Commitment, Courage, Pride" is the motto of the 1-23 school's athletic department, whose members brought acclaim to the 1-24 community when they were named 1998 District 18-4A champions in 2-1 four categories, varsity football, junior varsity football, cross 2-2 country, and junior varsity track; the cheerleading squad placed 2-3 third overall in its division at the Universal Cheerleaders 2-4 Association regional competition in November 1998 and will perform 2-5 in a nationally televised competition this spring with teams from 2-6 throughout the country; and 2-7 WHEREAS, Musically gifted individuals have represented Caney 2-8 Creek High School with distinction in the areas of instrumental and 2-9 choral music; eight students qualified for Region IX All-Region 2-10 Band and many others achieved honors in state and regional 2-11 competitions; and 2-12 WHEREAS, Artwork created by students has been displayed at 2-13 the State Capitol and the Gallery of Art in Conroe, and more pieces 2-14 will be shown at the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce; one 2-15 CCHS entry of art sold for $11,000 at the Houston Livestock Show 2-16 and Rodeo, 15 students received top ratings at a Region 6 art 2-17 competition, and several won honors at the Conroe Western Art 2-18 Competition, including Top Place Best of Show; and 2-19 WHEREAS, Placing fifth at the FFA State Leadership 2-20 Conference, the school's chapter has also been selected to attend 2-21 the Made for Excellence Conference and the Washington Leadership 2-22 Conference; members have successfully marketed their entries, which 2-23 sold at the Houston Livestock Show, the San Antonio Livestock 2-24 Exposition, the State Fair of Texas, and the Southwestern Livestock 2-25 Exposition; and 2-26 WHEREAS, In speaking events, the debate team won the 1998 UIL 2-27 title as well as several awards this year, and six students will 3-1 advance to the regional UIL competition in accounting, calculator, 3-2 ready writing, prose, and editorial writing contests; and 3-3 WHEREAS, The award-winning Starlettes drill team has received 3-4 numerous honors at state, regional, and international level 3-5 competitions; some of their achievements include being named Best 3-6 in Class 4A High School and winning the Directors Award of 3-7 Excellence at the Dance/Drill Team School Houston Regional Contest, 3-8 Best in Class 4A High School at the Miss Drill Team Texas Contest, 3-9 and Overall International Champion Runner-Up at the American 3-10 Dance/Drill Team International-National Contest; and 3-11 WHEREAS, The first graduating class of exceptional young 3-12 individuals at Caney Creek High School has set a high standard of 3-13 accomplishment to which those following may aspire; now, therefore, 3-14 be it 3-15 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 3-16 Legislature hereby congratulate the members of the first graduating 3-17 class at Caney Creek High School for their commitment to excellence 3-18 and extend to them sincere best wishes for success and happiness in 3-19 the years to come; and, be it further 3-20 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 3-21 prepared for prominent display at Caney Creek High School as an 3-22 expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
