R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to
 1-2     recognize the members of the 1999 graduating class of Elkhart High
 1-3     School on the occasion of their visit to the State Capitol on April
 1-4     22, 1999; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, These 73 young men and women can proudly reflect on
 1-6     their many academic, athletic, and extracurricular accomplishments
 1-7     as they stand at the threshold of a future bright with promise; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, Two "Class of 1999" members who exemplify the
 1-9     well-rounded student nurtured by the education team at Elkhart High
1-10     School are class valedictorian Melody Fairchild and salutatorian
1-11     Jessi Johnson; Ms. Fairchild has built an exemplary academic career
1-12     while participating in extracurricular activities such as
1-13     cheerleading and volleyball and  Ms. Johnson, also an academic
1-14     success, has reached state qualifying levels in the Texas High
1-15     School Rodeo Association and the Lone Star High School Rodeo
1-16     Association in barrel racing and pole bending events; and
1-17           WHEREAS, Foreign exchange student Kei Yamen earned a ranking
1-18     as a first place team member in district UIL mathematics
1-19     competition and won second place in district in both team and
1-20     individual calculator contests; and
1-21           WHEREAS, Seniors also brought honor to their school and
1-22     community with their athletic achievements this year; power lifting
1-23     team members Jimmy Wolfe, Dru Murray, and Sam Walker received
1-24     second, third, and fifth place, respectively, at the state
 2-1     competition; the volleyball team was well represented when Rachel
 2-2     Rosson was named the district's most valuable player, Melody
 2-3     Fairchild and Robyn Steadman were selected first team all district,
 2-4     and Holly Daniel won honorable mention; and
 2-5           WHEREAS, Excelling in musical contests as well, members of
 2-6     the Big Red Band advanced to regional competition, and seniors Gary
 2-7     Sherman, John Easterling, and Billy Collins were selected for the
 2-8     prestigious all-state band; and
 2-9           WHEREAS, Members of the Elkhart High School senior class have
2-10     laid a solid foundation for their ongoing success and they will
2-11     surely be among the future generation of leaders of the Lone Star
2-12     State; now, therefore, be it
2-13           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
2-14     Legislature hereby congratulate  the visiting members of the
2-15     Elkhart High School Class of 1999 for their significant
2-16     achievements and extend to them warmest best wishes for many more
2-17     years of continued success in all their endeavors; and, be it
2-18     further
2-19           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-20     prepared for the Elkhart High School Class of 1999 as an expression
2-21     of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
