No. 715 76R11501 JBR-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives joins the 1-2 citizens of Zapata, Texas, and residents of the Mexican states in 1-3 mourning the loss of three of the members of the celebrated band 1-4 Intocable and in wishing the remaining members a speedy recovery 1-5 from the physical and emotional pain of the accident; and 1-6 WHEREAS, On January 31, 1999, the enormously popular Tejano 1-7 musical group was en route to the Monterrey airport to take a 1-8 flight for a performance that night when the tragic accident 1-9 occurred that would claim the lives of these fine young men; and 1-10 WHEREAS, The deceased were Jose Angel "Pepe" Farias of 1-11 Monterrey, who was the master of ceremonies and percussionist; the 1-12 band's new road manager, Jose Angel Gonzalez of Houston; and 1-13 Silvestre Rodriguez of McAllen, who was the bass player and singer; 1-14 and 1-15 WHEREAS, The remaining members are lead singer Ricky Munoz, 1-16 drummer Rene Martinez, bass player Sergio Serna, and conga player 1-17 Danny Sanchez; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Intocable was founded in 1994 in Zapata and was 1-19 originally known as Ricky Munoz y Los Tejanos; the name was soon 1-20 changed to Intocable when a unique Norteno-Tejano sound was 1-21 produced that brought the band fame and a bright future; in five 1-22 years, the group had earned several platinum albums, including a 1-23 double platinum for their most recent CD, called Intocable; and 1-24 WHEREAS, Known as a closely knit group of musicians, the band 2-1 members were like family to each other, and their stirring Tejano 2-2 and Norteno music has made them very successful in South Texas and 2-3 Northern Mexico; and 2-4 WHEREAS, Intocable was the winner of numerous Texas Tejano 2-5 music awards, and the band's songs became regulars at the top of 2-6 the charts with such selections as "Eres Mi Droga" and "Vivir Sin 2-7 Ellas"; and 2-8 WHEREAS, The death of these three young members of this 2-9 stellar singing group represents an incalculable loss to the 2-10 musical world as well as to their families; now, therefore, be it 2-11 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-12 Legislature hereby extend sincere condolences to the families of 2-13 the members of Intocable; and, be it further 2-14 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-15 prepared for the members of their families and that when the Texas 2-16 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of 2-17 Jose Angel Farias, Jose Angel Gonzalez, and Silvestre Rodriguez.
